When a person suffers from mania and dementia with cold reversal of hands and feet, treating it as a mania disease is ineffective. *Mingyi Lu* (Records of Famous Doctors) states: This is caused by fright, fear, worry, and overthinking. Great fright injures the Heart; great fear injures the Kidney; worry and overthinking injure the Shen (Spirit) and Zhi (Will). Insufficiency of Shen leads to mania and dementia; insufficiency of Zhi leads to terror. Terror causes Qi stagnation in the Kidney, leading to inability to support the feet.
