Master Wang said: My wife once served her sick parent for days without eating, resulting in Heart-Spleen pain. Attacks would strike the heart and abdomen, followed by heartache. When the pain became unbearable, she prepared to say goodbye to her children. After administering medicine, the pain worsened. If whole-body moxibustion were applied, her body could not withstand it. I reluctantly had my children use fire needles for slight pricking, not restricted to the heart or abdomen. The pain settled within moments, and she was able to rise. Truly miraculous.

The "Nine Types" of heartache refer to Heart-Spleen pain, not True Heartache. True Heartache results in death if onset is in the morning (dies evening) or evening (dies morning), as recorded in *Nan Jing*.
However, this disease has its origins. Discussions state that postpartum heartache, if mistakenly treated as trauma, leads to extreme Deficiency and severe Cold in the Heart collaterals, transmitting to the True Heart Meridian and becoming True Heartache. This is one theory. Wu Chen, due to the summer campaign against Zheng, resented Zi Fan, saying, "I will make you die from exhaustion." Zi Fan ran on missions seven times in one year, eventually succumbing to a Heart disease from overexertion. Thus, how should one act? One should nurture the Heart daily to maintain peace, preventing disease. Secondly, administer tonics like Zhenxin Dan. If disease is impending, acupuncture/moxibustion can be a secondary measure.
Treatment for Cold pain in the heart and abdomen.
Wang Shi's Jade Belly Pad Method: Use 4 liang of magnetic sand (needle sand), stir-fry until smoke appears. Add 0.5 liang of alum. Mix with half a qian each of sand powder and frost. Blend with fresh water until slightly damp. Apply with leather paper inside the garment. When hot, place on Shenque (CV8), Qihai (CV6), Shimen (CV5), Guanyuan (CV4) to strongly tonify the Primordial Yuan. Or apply to other cold areas; sweating indicates immediate cure. I have verified this personally. If the medicine dries and loses heat, re-moisten with fresh water to reactivate; usable over ten times. If potency is exhausted, dry and add alum again to restore heat. My brother Shuhao passed down a formula using only magnetic sand and mud alum, with identical efficacy. Is it avoided because sand powder/frost is expensive?
Wang Shi said: I previously suffered from Heart Bi, with unbearable pain upon attack. I urgently placed a tile in charcoal fire until red-hot, removed it, and quenched it in rice vinegar. Wrapped in two-three layers of paper, I applied it to the painful area. It provided slight relief; replaced when cold. This was transmitted by elders. Later, reading *Qianjin Fang*, it states: For any Cold pain in heart/abdomen, half salt can be heated for ironing, or silkworm sand/bricks/stones steamed for ironing, utilizing internal warmth to stop pain. Steaming earth is also excellent. I realized my family's method originated from *Qianjin Fang*. Another time, severe heartache led me to moxa Zhongwan several cones. I felt Cold Qi in both sides of the lower abdomen rising upwards, dissipating upon reaching the moxa site. This demonstrates the efficacy of moxibustion. *Ben Shi Fang* records Wang Sihe discussing Xin Song (palpitations). It is not Xin Song but the Great Luo of the Stomach, named Jianli (CV11), connecting the chest/diaphragm and between the breasts. Deficiency with Phlegm causes movement, followed by a burst of heat. If so, moxa Jianli is appropriate, though Zhongwan is more crucial.
Treatment for heartache and pediatric heartache. Moxa the middle segment of the big toe, 3 cones, then stop. Male left, female right. If Ascaris drilling into the heart causes severe pain, doctors who do not understand the syndrome rely on analgesics, which is far off. In worm pain, the face turns blue-black during attacks, the patient lies supine clutching hands, feels faint and near death, and vomits clear fluid.
Treatment for heartache. In the chaotic lines of the sole of the foot, use wheat-grain-sized moxa cones, moxa 3 cones. Male left, female right. Moxa during peak pain.
Treatment for True Heartache. Discussion states: Hands/feet cyanotic to joints, severe heartache. Morning onset dies evening, evening onset dies morning. Treatment for heartache and even after death (from *Baoming Ji*). Elevate the pillow, flex the knees to soften the abdominal skin. Moxa Weiwan (CV12), 3 cun above the umbilicus. Soon, the patient suffers pain and shortness of breath, wanting someone to raise their hand. Within the time of a small hand raise, pain alleviates.
Treatment for Ascaris heartache. Press and hold firmly with hand to prevent movement. Insert a large needle, hold for a long time. Withdraw needle only when the parasite stops moving. Do not prick randomly below the heart; if masses are present, avoid Shu points. If intestinal Ascaris biting, do not use small needles.
Treatment for heartache pulling to the lower back/spine with desire to vomit, and inability to breathe (from *Baoming Ji*). Needle Foot-Shaoyin. If ineffective, select Hand-Shaoyin.
Treatment for heartache with abdominal distension, aversion to cold, and constipation (from *Baoming Ji*). Needle Foot-Taiyin.
Treatment for heartache pulling to lower abdominal fullness, irregular location, and difficult urination/defecation (from *Baoming Ji*). Needle Foot-Jueyin.
Treatment for heartache with only shortness of breath insufficient for respiration (from *Baoming Ji*). Needle Hand-Taiyin.
Treatment for draining Heat in Jue-type heartache (from *Baoming Ji*). Taixi (KI3) moxa 3 cones, or 5-7 cones.
Treatment for draining Heat in Jue-type pain (from *Baoming Ji*). Kunlun (BL60) moxa 3 cones, or 5-7 cones.
Treatment for heartache connected to the back, with much fear, sensation of being touched from behind, and stooping. This is Kidney heartache (from *Baoming Ji*). First needle Jinggu (BL64) and Kunlun (BL60). If ineffective, needle Hegu (LI4).
Treatment for heartache worsening with movement in the room despite lying down for long periods, with unchanged complexion. This is Lung heartache (from *Baoming Ji*). Needle Yuji (LU10) and Taiyuan (LU9) to promote Qi circulation and remove stagnation for cure.
Treatment for unbearable sudden heartache. Needle Ren Mai Shangwan (CV13), insert 8 fen. Tonify first, then sedate. Needling sensation should feel like rolling egg yolk under the needle, penetrating to the abdomen. Next needle Qihai (CV6) bilateral, Yongquan (KI1) bilateral.
