Treating Pi accumulation (Pi accumulation: a type of abdominal mass characterized by fixed location and pain). The acupoint is located in the depression behind the medial malleolus. The moxibustion dosage follows the patient's age, one moxa cone per year of age. Qihai (CV6) is moxibusted with 100 cones.
Treating chronic cold conditions, as well as Jia masses (Jia masses: fixed abdominal masses often associated with blood stasis) in women. Symptoms include borborygmus (intestinal rumbling), diarrhea, and colicky pain around the umbilicus. The acupoint is Tianshu (ST25). Moxibustion with 100 cones, administered in three sessions (San Bao Zhi), acupuncture is contraindicated.
Treating Tang Jia (Tang Jia: a type of soft abdominal mass associated with dampness or loose stools). The acupoint is Diji (SP8).
Treating Shan Jia (Shan Jia: hernia-like masses or abdominal masses related to liver channel disorders). The acupoints are Yinlingquan (SP9), Taixi (KI3), and Yin [Gu] (Yin Gu: KI7, implied by context though text says "Yin").
Treating Shan Jia. The acupoints are Burong (ST17) and Zhongji (CV3).
Treating hardness and enlargement of the lower abdomen resembling a plate, chest and abdominal distension, and indigestion. In women, it treats Jia Ju (Jia Ju: gynecological masses) and emaciation. The acupoint is Sanjiaoshu (BL22). Moxibustion with 100 cones. The point behind the medial malleolus is treated according to age. Qihai (CV6) is moxibusted with 100 cones.
Treating Jia Pi (Jia Pi: alternating abdominal masses) that move left and right. If the affliction is on the left, moxibustion is applied to the left; if on the right, to the right. The first moxibustion site is at the head of the flexed rib, near the lower edge of the second rib. The second site is at the head of the second rib, near the lower edge of the third rib, towards the anterior aspect of the muscle wing. On the first day, 3 cones are used; on the second day, 5 cones; subsequently, 7 to 10 cones, cycling repeatedly (Garlic is contraindicated). Additionally, Guanyuan (CV4) is moxibusted with 50 cones, and the area four finger-breadths below the umbilicus is moxibusted with 50 cones.
Treating Ji Ju (Ji Ju: accumulated masses that are hard and painful) with hardness, fullness, and pain. The acupoint is Zhangmen (LR13). Moxibustion with 100 cones.
Treating [Text missing]. The acupoint is Sanjiaoshu (BL22).
Treating accumulated fluid retention, Pi Nang (Pi Nang: a condition involving phlegm-fluid accumulation forming a cyst-like mass), chest fullness, and indigestion. The acupoint is Tonggu (BL65). Moxibustion with 50 cones.
Treating [Text missing] Pi and Shan Pi (Shan Pi: sudden onset of abdominal masses or pain). Have the patient sit flat. Take a hemp thread, wrap it around the neck, let the end hang down forward to the Jiwei (CV15) point, and cut it horizontally. Then fold the thread backward to align with the spine, mark the end of the thread. Take another thread horizontally across the outside of the mouth corners and cut it. Fold this mouth-measuring thread in half. Using the spinal mark as the center, divide it equally up and down. Mark the two ends and the center. Apply moxibustion simultaneously at these three points along the spine. Each point receives between 7 and 10 cones daily for ten days, then stop. Observe if the patient's appetite improves and food tastes better. If not fully cured, pause for twenty days, then resume the previous moxibustion protocol. Additionally, moxibustion with 200 cones is applied to the tip of the costal margin (Ji Li Tou). The timing of moxibustion on the costal margin should coincide with that on the spine.
Treating Shan Pi. This type of Pi has a root; the root may attach to the back or the arm. Have the patient sit flat and carefully examine the head of the Pi mass. Press upward from the head of the mass with your hand. There should be a pulsating sensation moving upward. Trace this pulse finely to the arm until the strongest pulsation is found below the arm. Apply moxibustion here, using the same number of cones as previously described. Wang Cheng stated that excessive moxibustion on the back is dangerous; it should be done carefully, with seven cones per session daily.
