Deafness may be caused by Qi stagnation; when Qi flows freely, it resolves. Deafness caused by excessive covering with clothes/quilts during cold damage will gradually improve as the disease subsides. Locals use juice from *Za'ercao* (Plantain) dropped into the ear, or eating porridge boiled with Xinluo Baicao (White Grass from Silla), which is also effective.
To treat ear diseases.
Make a mud cake with a thickness of about half a fen. Cover the area around the ear, ensuring no air escapes. Pierce a small hole in the center of the mud cake with a chopstick. Perform moxibustion with 100 moxa cones at this hole. When the pain in the ear becomes unbearable, turn the head sideways to allow yellow fluid to drain completely, which indicates recovery. If the mud dries, replace it multiple times. Alternatively, cut a two-cun long arrow shaft, insert it into the ear, seal the edges with flour paste to prevent air leakage, and perform 7 moxa cones on the shaft. Another method: crush fermented soybeans (*Douchi*) to make a cake, fill it into the ear. Take a five-cun long piece of *Rehmanniae Radix* (Shengdi Huang), sharpen one end, and insert it into the ear so that it aligns with the bottom of the bean cake. Cover the cake with a lotus leaf, carve a hole the size of a chopstick tip through the leaf and cake, and perform 3 moxa cones above.
To treat tinnitus and deafness, needle the Yifeng (TE17) acupoint on the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian bilaterally, followed by needling the Tinghui (GB2) acupoint on the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian bilaterally.
