Wang Shi said: Cold and painful shoulders are particularly important not to ignore. I have often seen patients on the verge of stroke with dislocated arm bones that do not connect properly with the shoulder; many cases remain untreatable.
In summary, as soon as one feels cold pain in the shoulders, one must moxa points such as Jianliao (GB14) immediately, to prevent it from reaching this extreme. In my middle age, whenever it was cold, my shoulders were often cold. I used to rub them with my palms, and at night cover them with quilts, barely keeping them warm. Later, after moxibustion on Jianliao (GB14), I was free from this affliction. Jianliao (GB14) concerns the safety of both hands, and Huantiao (GB30) concerns the safety of both feet; they should not be neglected for moxibustion.

The Danliao Fang records: Zhen Quan of the Tang Dynasty studied medicine with his brother Li Yan because his mother was ill. In the early Kaihuang era of the Sui Dynasty, he served as Secretary Corrector (Mishu Zhengzi). Later, he was appointed Prefect of Luzhou. Kudi Qin suffered from wind disease, unable to move his hand. Various physicians could not cure him. Zhen Quan said, "Just hold a bow and arrow towards the parapet; one needle prick will allow you to shoot." He needled the Jianliao (LI15) point, and he recovered instantly. During the Zhen'guan era of the Tang Dynasty, at 103 years old, Emperor Taizong visited his home, observed his diet, consulted him on herbal properties, and granted him the title of Chaosan Dafu, bestowing a desk, cane, and clothes. His compiled *Maijing Zhifa* (Pulse Diagnosis and Needling Methods) and one volume of *Mingtang Tongren Tu* (Illustrated Bronze Man of Mingtang) are still in use today (from *History of Tang*).
