Shennong tasted hundreds of herbs. Within one day, he encountered seventy types of toxins, thereby distinguishing the relationships of mutual benefit (Xiang De), mutual opposition (Xiang Fan), and mutual aversion/fear (Xiang E Wei) among them. Regarding whether drugs are toxic or non-toxic, each has specific processing and treatment methods. However, some drugs, if unprocessed, may have toxicity even exceeding that of beans. Verification methods are like... [text missing] ...in the abdomen... medicinal juice...
Those drugs with high toxicity must not enter the mouth, nose, ears, or eyes; once entering, they can cause death. The first is Gouwen (Gelsemium elegans), growing in Zhuya. The second is Zhen (a legendary poisonous bird), also known as... [missing character]. Symptoms include... neck stiffness (Xiang Qiang). Some symptoms resemble epidemic febrile diseases, with vomiting or diarrhea, often accompanied by severe headache. Others present with red teeth and tongue, and a bluish complexion, all indicating poisoning from medicinal substances.
Common people distinguish five other uncommon poisonous drugs: Buqiang Yao (Strong Drug), Lan Yao (Blue Drug), Qiaotong Yao (Bronze-Scorching Drug), Jin Yao (Gold Drug), and Jun Yao (Mushroom Drug). These five drugs can also be fatal to humans. Initially, it is difficult to detect. To determine if one is poisoned, upon initial discomfort, grind well-washed polished silver with ash until clean, then rinse the mouth and teeth with willow branch water and hold it in the mouth overnight. Spit it out the next morning for observation: if the silver turns black, it is poisoning from Buqiang Yao; if blue-black, it is Lan Yao; if purple-spotted, it is Qiaotong Yao. Among these three, Buqiang Yao is the most acute. If ingested with hot wine or food, death occurs within six to seven days; if with cold wine or food, it takes half a month to manifest. If the silver color remains unchanged but symptoms resemble other poisonings, suspect poisoning and confirm by eating carp. After consumption, the toxin will manifest. Hold silver in the mouth for about two meal times, then place it under dew. Check the silver color the next morning; if black, it confirms poisoning. Also take a cooked egg, remove the shell, apply the egg white to the teeth... [garbled text] ..., and place under dew. If the tooth marks turn black, it indicates poisoning. If feeling imbalance of the Four Great Elements (Si Da - earth, water, fire, wind, referring to general malaise), drink alcohol and eat roasted chicken, pork, or duck on an empty stomach to trigger the toxin, then treat to achieve recovery. If untreated for long, the toxin invades the intestines and stomach, making treatment difficult. If certain of poisoning and mushroom spores are vomited, it is Jun Yao poisoning. There is no fixed color change, only slight abnormalities.
There are two other poisons named Danggu Cao. Upon poisoning, the pulse is floating, large, and surging. Onset includes aversion to cold, headache, dry retching, back tightness, involuntary biting of the tongue, constipation, and bluish discoloration of the face, eye sockets, lips, nails, and back. Another type of Danggu Cao presents with trismus (lockjaw) and dryness, inability to speak, throat pain like needle/stabbing, intense chest heat, chest fullness, and death with bluish discoloration of the body, lips, and extremities within 100 days.
Poisoning from Wutou (Aconitum carmichaelii) presents with stiff throat, eye pain, olfactory hallucinations/heavy limbs, frequent vomiting, abdominal heat/distension, bluish lips/face, alternating cyanosis and erythema, leading to death after 100 days.
Generally, individuals with dark skin, large bones, and abundant muscle have thick Stomach Qi and can tolerate toxins; thin individuals have weak Stomach Qi and cannot tolerate toxins.
All herbal poisons and toxins disrupt the human body, causing harm and death. Toxicity varies in magnitude, requiring rescue based on the specific exposure. If toxin... [missing] ...suddenly blue... treatment... follow major... formula...
