Shi Ying (Stone Goiter), Ni Ying (Mud Goiter), Lao Ying (Labor Goiter), You Ying (Worry Goiter), and Qi Ying (Qi Goiter). These are collectively known as the "Five Yings" (Five types of goiter). Shi Ying and Ni Ying arise from drinking mountain water or improper diet. You Ying, Lao Ying, and Qi Ying... [Note: The original text contains a logical inconsistency or omission here regarding the naming convention, literally stating they do not name Qi Ying, but contextually refers to etiology]. All five types of Ying should not be arbitrarily incised. Incision leads to the collapse of pus and blood, often resulting in premature death. It is appropriate to take the following prescriptions.
Prescription: Wu Ying Wan (Five Ying Pill)
Herbs: Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Hai Ge (Concha Arcae), Bai Lian (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix), Zao Hai (Sargassum Herba), Song Luo (Usnea Diffusa), Guan Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Shu Jiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, remove seeds and closed ones), Dao Gua Cao (Hedyotis diffusa), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma). Each ingredient is used in equal amounts.
Usage: Form into pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take three times daily with wine.
Action: Break stagnation and dissipate masses.
Indication: Treats symptoms of the Five Yings.
Prescription: Zao Hai San (Seaweed Powder)
Herbs: Zao Hai (Sargassum Herba, washed to remove saltiness), Long Dan Cao (Gentianae Radix), Hai Ge (Concha Arcae), Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), Kun Bu (Laminariae Thallus, washed to remove saltiness), Fan Shi (Alumen, calcined), Song Luo (Usnea Diffusa), Mai Qu (Saccharomyces). Each ingredient is used in 3 fen.
Usage: Grind into powder. Take one fang cun bi (approx. 2-3 grams) per dose, mixed with wine. Take twice daily.
Contraindications: Avoid physical labor and exertion. Avoid cold/raw foods, vinegar, and slippery/greasy foods.
Prescription: Yu Hu San (Jade Pot Powder)
Herbs: Zao Hai (Sargassum Herba, washed to remove saltiness and roasted), Hai Dai (Laminariae Thallus, washed to remove saltiness and roasted), Kun Bu (Laminariae Thallus, washed to remove saltiness and roasted), Lei Wan (Ovum Ascaris), each 1 liang; Qing Yan (Halitum), Guang Zhu (Curcumae Radix), each 5 qian.
Usage: Grind finely, mix with honey to form pills. Hold in mouth and swallow slowly to ensure continuous effect.
Another Prescription
Ingredients: Xiao Mai Mian (Triticum aestivum flour, 1 jin), Zao Hai (Sargassum Herba, 1 dou, washed to remove saltiness and roasted), Shi Sheng Fan Shi (Fresh Alumen, 10 liang).
Usage: Soak the wheat flour in rice vinegar aged for three years, dry it, grind each separately into powder, mix well, and take. Another method suggests taking 4-5 doses daily, holding saliva and swallowing.
Contraindications: Avoid ginger, the "five pungents" (wu xin), pork, fish, and raw vegetables. Also avoid sounds from blowing/playing instruments, reading aloud, or whispering.
Another Prescription
Usage: Take Lu Ye (Deer throat mass/saccus laryngis), soak in fine wine until juices exude, roast until dry, place back in wine, roast again until fragrant. Hold in mouth and swallow the juice. Replace when flavor is exhausted. After using ten pieces, the condition heals.
Treatment for Five Yings
Usage: Take 1 liang of Kun Bu (Laminariae Thallus), cut into finger-sized strips, soak in vinegar, hold in mouth and swallow the juice until healed.
