Sudden hematemesis (sudden vomiting of blood) is caused by the stagnation and obstruction in the Heart and Lung organs, injury from sudden heat pathogens, or it may result from overeating, excessive alcohol consumption, and physical exhaustion. The Heart and Lung are located in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner).
Sheng Gan Di Huang San (Raw Rehmannia Powder) [Source: *Sheng Hui Fang*]: Treats sudden hematemesis caused by sudden heat affecting the Heart and Lung, where heat toxins enter the Stomach, leading to continuous bleeding.
Ingredients: Sheng Gan Di Huang (Raw Rhizoma Rehmanniae Preparata), Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, crushed and stir-fried until yellow and dry), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Bai Ye (Cacumen Platycladi), Xi Jiao Xie (Hornis Rhinocerotis, finely sliced), Ci Ji (Spiny Thistle, each 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into a powder. Take an appropriate amount (text missing, typically 1-2 qian) per dose, mixed with warm water.
Gan Cao San (Licorice Powder) [Source: *Sheng Hui Fang*]: Treats continuous sudden hematemesis.
Ingredients: Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, cut and used raw), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, crushed and stir-fried until yellow and dry), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed and cut), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, each 1 liang), Fu Long Gan (Caulis Longii, 1 he).

Ingredients: Ou Jie (Node of Nymphaeae Nelumbinis Rhizoma, 7 pieces), He Ye Ding (Loto Flos apex, 7 pieces).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients finely with a small amount of honey. Add 2 cups of water, decoct until reduced to 80%, remove dregs, and take warm. Alternatively, grind into powder and take directly.
Guan Zhong San (Polyporus Powder) [Source: *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*]: Treats sudden hematemesis and hemoptysis.
Ingredients: Guan Zhong (Polyporus, 1 liang), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, removed roots, 0.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mix with thickly decocted glutinous rice drink, and swallow immediately to stop bleeding.

Take thatch grass from the roof, cut finely (3 sheng), soak in wine, decoct, and take 3 sheng. Water decoction is also acceptable.

Preparation and Administration: Add 3 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 1 sheng of liquid. Combine and decoct again to obtain 1 sheng. Take in one dose to stop bleeding immediately.

Crush fresh Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) and squeeze out the juice. Place in a porcelain bowl, add gelatin the size of two fingers, and steam over rice cooking 3 sheng of grain. Drink when temperature is suitable. One dose is effective.

Take Gui Xie (Cinnamomi Cortex, size of a square inch spoon), hold in mouth day and night for about 2 cun. Highly effective, also recorded in *Qian Jin Fang*.
Treatment for sudden hematemesis, as well as passing bright red blood [Source: *Ben Cao*]:
Take Xiao Ji Ye (Folium Cirsii Japonici), crush and squeeze out the juice, take warm.
Treatment for sudden hematemesis [Source: *Ben Cao*]:
Take Pu Huang (Polygoni Pollen, 1 sheng), decoct with water and take.
Treatment for sudden hematemesis [Source: *Ben Cao*]:
Take He Gen (Nelumbinis Rhizomatis Rhizoma facing east, one handful), crush and squeeze out 3 sheng of juice, and take. White lotus is now widely planted in Jingchu and Jianghu regions.
