Accumulation and mass (Ji Ju) diseases arise from the presence of cold pathogen within the body. When blood and qi are deficient, wind pathogen invades and contends with the zang-fu organs. If cold is predominant, causing qi stagnation and涩ness (stasis), accumulation and mass form. "Accumulation" (Ji) refers to yin pathogen coagulating; its manifestations include food failing to transform into muscle and flesh, lumps in the abdomen resembling peaches or plums, abdominal fullness, vomiting, and diarrhea. Pain intensifies upon exposure to cold, hence it is termed Cold Hernia Accumulation and Mass (Han Shan Ji Ju). The pulse may appear wiry and tight (Xuan Jin) or floating and firm (Fu Lao), both indicating accumulation. A firm, strong, and rapid pulse suggests preserved righteous qi and a better prognosis, whereas a weak and rapid pulse indicates critical condition and poor prognosis.
