All seasonal epidemics are caused by the abnormal qi of the four seasons. When the human body is affected by these pathogens, illness occurs. Regardless of age, symptoms are generally similar. If the disease is not prevented and isolated, it often leads to contagion. Therefore, appropriate prescriptions and methods should be employed for advance prevention. It is also said that such diseases arise because the climate of the year is disordered, with irregular warmth and cold. When people are affected by qi that contradicts the seasonal norms, illness ensues, and the pathogenic qi spreads through mutual infection, potentially leading to the death of an entire household and spreading to outsiders. Thus, one must take medicine in advance and employ magical rituals for treatment.
Prescriptions:
Mahuang San (Cinnamon Twig Decoction Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*), treating seasonal epidemics and mutual contagion. In such cases, one must avoid patients, pay attention to dietary regulation, etc., to prevent transmission via food or contact. Once one person falls ill, the whole family suffers unrest. This phenomenon of mutual contagion requires intervention.
Ingredients: Mahuang (*Ephedrae Herba*, root and nodes removed, 3 fen), Jiegeng (*Platycodonis Radix*, radix removed, 3 fen), Guixin (*Cinnamomi Ramulus*, 3 fen), Ganjiang (*Zingiberis Rhizoma*, processed, 3 fen), Fangfeng (*Saposhnikoviae Radix*, radix removed, 3 fen), Chuan Dahuang (*Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*, crushed, slightly roasted, 3 fen), Chuan Wutou (*Aconiti Radix*, cracked by processing, skin and umbilicus removed, 1 fen), Wuzhuyu (*Evodiae Fructus*, soaked in decoction seven times, dried, slightly roasted, 1 fen), Chuanjiao (*Zanthoxyli Pericarpium*, eyes and closed-mouth ones removed, slightly roasted to remove sweat, 1 fen). The above ingredients are ground into a powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with warm wine on an empty stomach.
Wutou San (Aconite Root Decoction Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*), treating seasonal epidemics where mutual contagion persists.

The above ingredients are ground into a powder. Add Longnao and Puxiao, grind together until uniform. Take 1 qian per dose on an empty stomach, mixed with warm wine.
Xionghuang Wan (Realgar Pill, from *Shenghui Fang*), treating seasonal epidemics where mutual contagion occurs, potentially leading to the death of an entire household and affecting outsiders, with no one escaping infection.
Ingredients: Xionghuang (*Realgar*, 1 liang, finely ground), Chixiaodou (*Vigna angularis*, roasted, 2 liang), Danshen (*Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*, 2 liang), Guijianyu (*Corni Fructus*, 2 liang). The above ingredients are ground into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 5 pills per dose on an empty stomach, with warm water. One can share a bed and pass clothes with patients without getting infected.
Zhusha Wan (Cinnabar Pill, from *Shenghui Fang*), treating seasonal epidemics where mutual contagion spreads to outsiders, causing fear of direct contact.
Ingredients: Zhusha (*Cinnabaris*, 2 liang, finely ground and washed with water), Xionghuang (*Realgar*, 2 liang, finely ground and washed with water), Chixiaodou (*Vigna angularis*, roasted, 2 liang), Renshen (*Ginseng Radix*, radix removed, 1 liang), Guijianyu (*Corni Fructus*, 1 liang). Mix the above ingredients, decoct to obtain 1.5 zhong zhan of liquid. Strain. Divide into three doses. Take one dose at dawn each day to prevent infection.
Zhangyi Fang (Miasma Epidemic Prescription, from *Shenghui Fang*), treating seasonal warm toxicity to prevent mutual contagion. (From *Shenghui Fang*)
In the first month, select mulberry roots growing eastward, about the thickness of a finger, one cun in length. Coat them with Zhusha (*Cinnabaris*) and hang them on the door. Also, have people wear them. Another method does not use Zhusha.
