The condition known as transverse presentation (Hengchan) occurs when, upon the initial sensation of abdominal pain, the fetus has not yet rotated its position. Due to panic, the mother exerts force prematurely to deliver, resulting in a transverse lie. This may also be caused by violating taboos.
Formulas:
Beimu Wan (Pearl Bulb Pill), also known as Qianjin Wan, treats transverse presentation or inverted fetus, retention of the placenta (Baoyi), postpartum residual diseases, and continuous sweating accompanied by vexation and fullness.
[Ingredients] Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus, baked until yellow), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), Qinjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, remove eyes and closed-mouth ones, remove sweat-qi), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Jingmi (Oryzae Semen Glutinosa), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, finely ground).
[Usage] Form into pills the size of a bullet. Take at any time.
Jinye Wan (Golden Liquid Pill), treats sudden transverse inversion during labor. This is due to failure to observe dietary restrictions, indulging in excessive eating, leading to stagnation of Qi in the Five Zang organs and disharmony of the Six Fu organs, causing excessive fetal Qi.
[Ingredients] Feishengmao (Hair from burning, add half qian equivalent to armpit hair), Xuyue (Human Hair Ash, from a man's fever), Gongmu Yangfen (Sheep Dung, male and female, burned to ash, half qian each), Zaozhongxin Tu (Earth from the center of the stove).
[Usage] Grind into fine powder. Mix with zongzi (sticky rice dumpling) to form pills the size of mung beans. In cases of difficult labor, swallow five pills with "reverse-flowing water" (water poured backwards). The fetus will naturally turn straight for normal delivery, saving both mother and child. It is said that preparing this on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month is especially effective. Do not let chickens, dogs, or women see the preparation process.
Huashi San (Talc Powder), a formula for treating critical conditions such as transverse birth or breech presentation.
[Ingredients] Kuizi (Abutilonis Semen, two he), Huashimo (Talcum, one liang each).
[Usage] Grind into powder. Take 5 qian to 1 liang per dose, mixed with decoction of silkworm cast-off skin ash.
Another formula for treating transverse inversion or premature protrusion of limbs.
[Ingredients] Ming Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, fried; one version uses su/oil), Huashimo (Talcum, one liang each), Kuizi (Abutilonis Semen, two he).
[Usage] Take two zhan of water, decoct to one zhan, remove dregs. Divide into two doses. Another version adds modified ingredients.
Yet another formula for treating transverse presentation and premature protrusion of limbs.
[Usage] Take dust from roof beams, take with wine.
Another method:
Take grease from cart axles and write the character "Chu" (Out) on the infant's feet and palms. Another version involves drawing symbols on the armpits and palms.
Cuisheng Qiandan (Parturition-inducing Lead Monoxide), treats transverse and difficult labor.
[Usage] Take one qian of black lead, melt it in a small pot over fire. Throw in two qian of mercury. Stir rapidly until it forms sand-like particles. Pour out. Filter the juice through cooked silk cloth. Can be prepared in advance. Corners of worn sweatshirts may also be used (text implies specific application or storage).
Longshe San (Dragon-Snake Powder), treats transverse and breech presentation.
[Usage] Place snake slough in a jar, seal tightly with salt mud. Burn until preserved nature (carbonized but not ashed). Grind into fine powder. Take two qian per dose, mixed with decoction of Ulmus alba bark. Applicable whenever delivery is obstructed, especially if limbs appear first.
Treatment for transverse presentation and lateral protrusion of limbs:
Use a coarse needle to prick the infant's limbs about two fen deep. The pain and fright will cause the infant to turn and retract, facilitating natural delivery.
Treatment for transverse and breech presentation:
If the infant's limbs appear first, write the father's name on the soles of the feet. Delivery will immediately proceed smoothly. Scratching the soles of the feet is also beneficial.
Method for treating transverse inversion with limb protrusion:
Apply cow dung to the mother's abdomen. Delivery will proceed smoothly immediately.
Another method:
Take one egg from three different families, one qian of salt from three different families, and one large zhan of water from three different families. Mix and boil for five to seven boils. Divide into two doses. Let the mother face... [Text incomplete].

Take two liang of Epimedii Folium (Qumai), chop. Decoct in one large zhan of water until reduced to six parts. Remove dregs. Divide into two doses.
Another method:
Burn fourteen copper coins until red-hot. Throw them into a cup of wine. Drink after it has cooled.
Method for Breech Presentation:
Although entries for transverse and breech presentations are listed separately, formulas can be consulted and selected appropriately for emergency rescue. Treatment for Women with Transverse Presentation:
Use an iron pestle. If unavailable, use a sharp axe heated until red-hot. Throw into wine while hot. Consume. Delivery will proceed smoothly shortly.
Treatment for Transverse and Breech Presentation:
Grind Sunflower Seeds (Kuihuazi) into powder. Take with warm wine.
Treatment for Transverse Presentation:
Grind Cuscutae Semen (Tusizi) into powder. Take one qianbi mixed with wine. Rice drink is also acceptable.
Treatment for Transverse Presentation where fetus cannot exit:
Take roof beam dust. Take one fangcunbi mixed with wine. Also treats breech presentation.
Treatment for Women with Breech Presentation:
Swallow fourteen Hemp Seeds (Mazi). Position will correct.
Treatment for Breech Presentation with Cold Limbs and Lockjaw:
Stir-fry Malvae Semen (Dongkuizi) until yellow. Grind into powder. Take two qianbi with wine. Delivery will proceed smoothly.
