Wind-heat toxic factors, manifesting in the eyes, cause redness of the eye vessels. If untreated, it leads to eyelid ulceration, excessive discharge (discharge), tearing, foreign body sensation, and pain. If wind-heat does not subside, even after many years, it cannot heal. This is due to the accumulation of wind-heat in the Liver, with frequent stagnation in the Spleen and Lungs. Pathogenic factors remain latent in the Zang organs and cannot dissipate, attacking upwards to the eyes, causing redness, swelling, and pain. The eyes become sensitive to wind and sunlight, experiencing itching or dryness, tearing, or globe pain. If injured by wind-cold and not healed for a long time, it results in chronic redness and pain of the eyes and eyelids.
The *Longmu Lun* states: In bilateral adherent external cataract, at the onset, there may be itching or pain. After many years, wind-heat causes redness, and ulcers form on the eyelids. Due to heat in the Liver diaphragm and Qi stagnation in the Spleen and Stomach, the two eyelids adhere. At this time, hook-cutting therapy should be used, combined with Yanyan Paifeng San (Eye Rubbing Wind-Expelling Powder) and Wuxi Wan (Rhino Horn Pill), which are effective immediately.
The verse says: How to discuss the pain in both eyes? What is the cause of chronic wind-redness? Globe pain, eyelid dryness, rotting skin and flesh, and nebulae adhering like sinews. Cutting and cauterizing must induce significant bleeding; burning copper combs should be applied to the Chixuan acupoint. Frequent intake of wind-treating pills and powders will naturally eliminate the root over the years.
