Human Qi and Blood, when encountering heat, become moist and unobstructed; when encountering cold, they coagulate and stagnate. Shi Yong (Stone Carbuncle) is caused by the coagulation of cold pathogen leading to郁 heat (stagnant heat), where Qi fails to disperse. Consequently, the swelling is solid with a nodular feel, the skin and flesh are not very hot, pain is slight, and fever comes and goes intermittently. This condition features more cold than heat, resulting in hardness like stone, hence named Shi Yong (Stone Carbuncle). After a long time, accumulated heat transforms into pus. Treatment should focus on warming and regulating Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, dispersing the cold pathogen, allowing Qi to be promoted by Yang and move outward. Then, the swelling and hardness will naturally subside, and pus and blood will discharge.
