Whenever an arrowhead or metal sharp object penetrates the flesh, treatment should aim to remove it promptly. Even if fragmented, it must be completely removed within a day. Subsequently, apply various medicaments; otherwise, the wound will inevitably fail to heal.
Formulas
Xuduan Gao (Caudex Dipsaci Ointment), also known as Danggui Xuduan Gao (Angelica Root and Caudex Dipsaci Decoction), from *Shengji Zonglu*.
Indications: Arrowheads penetrating the flesh causing redness and swelling; expelling wind and promoting ulcer healing.
Ingredients: Angelica Root (*Danggui*), Caudex Dipsaci (*Xuduan*), Rhizoma Drynariae (*Gusuibu*), Cinnamon Twig (*Guizhi*, bark scraped off), Prepared Aconite Root (*Fuzi*), Herba Lycopi (*Zelan*), Peony Root (*Shaoyao*), Rhizoma Bletillae (*Baiji*), Achyranthes Root (*Niuxi*), Notopterygium Rhizome (*Qianghuo*), Szechwan Lovage Rhizome (*Chuanxiong*), Aucklandia Root (*Muxiang*), Aconitum Carmichaelii Deaux (*Wutou*, large ones).
Preparation: Use four jin of oil and one jin of lard. Boil for one day. Filter through raw silk to remove dregs. When the medicinal oil turns purple, immediately remove from heat.
