Generally speaking, excessive sleepiness caused by accumulated heat is due to a fullness syndrome of the Gallbladder. The Gallbladder is the source of clarity and decision-making. When both the Liver and Gallbladder are in a state of excess, Ying (Nutritive) Qi and Wei (Defensive) Qi become obstructed and blocked. This causes the originally clear state to become turbid and disturbed, leading to an imbalance of Yin and Yang and resulting in hypersomnia.
Fushen San (Spirit Calming Powder) (from *Shenghui Fang*): Treats hypersomnia due to Gallbladder heat, restlessness of the mind, and mental confusion or oppression.
Ingredients: Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, removed woody part), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Fuling (Poria, one tael each; another version uses Huangqin); Baixianpi (Dictamni Cortex), Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), Shashen (Glehniae Radix, five qian each), Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted, five qian).
Usage: Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Take three qian per dose, add one cup of water, decoct until reduced to six-tenths, remove the dregs, and take after meals. (Another version includes Lingyangxiao [Antelope Horn Powder].)
Maidong Tang (Ophiopogon Decoction) (from *Shenghui Fang*): Treats stagnation of Ying and Wei Qi, deficiency of spirit, hypersomnia due to Gallbladder heat, and dizziness of the head and eyes.
Ingredients: Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Tiandong (Asparagi Radix, heart removed), Lingyangjiao (Saiga Tataricae Cornu, shaved, three fen each), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, radix removed), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, four liang each).
Usage: [The original text lacks specific decoction and administration instructions here.]
Yuanzhi Wan (Polygala Pill): Treats hypersomnia caused by turbid Qi and insufficiency of spirit day and night.
Ingredients: Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix, heart removed), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Shanyu (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, two liang five qian each), Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), Tiefen (Ferrum Oxidatum, finely ground), Wutou (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, burnt to ash retaining nature).
[Specific dosage and usage are missing in the original text.]

Huanglian Tang (Coptis Decoction) (from Yang Zijian's *Huming Tang*): Treats bitter taste in the mouth due to Gallbladder heat, mental confusion with hypersomnia, and a full-large pulse at the left Guan position. This formula is suitable for use.
Ingredients: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, whiskers removed), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Chifuling (Poria, skin removed), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, one qian each).

Take one eye of a field mouse (Tianshu), burn it into powder, and mix it with fish bone. Place these two substances in a gauze bag and fumigate outside the bed; this will prevent sleepiness.
