Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma)
(Original text is incomplete, implying the above drugs all treat [the condition].)
Take regularly.
Ruxiang San (Frankincense Powder): Sun Shangyao used it to treat foot cramps, pain, and spasms.
Formula: Songjie (Pine Joint, 1 liang, finely chopped like rice grains), Ruxiang (Frankincense, 1 qian). Place the above ingredients in a silver or ceramic vessel. Stir-fry slowly over low heat until charred, retaining only one or two parts of their medicinal properties to remove fire toxicity.
Indications: Blood accumulation (Xue Zhu) affecting the feet. My ancestor suffered from this condition for over ten years without cure; this formula proved effective. (From *Jingyan Liangfang*)
Sanggui Gu, Niuxi Gu (also known as Duanshi Gu, growing on the ground like stones, emitting ash when broken), Feizhu Zhu Gu, Fetal Hair (male infant's hair for male patients, female infant's hair for female patients).
Usage: Mix evenly and apply topically.
Indications: Weakness of the waist and legs. (From *Bencao*). Eating raw chestnuts can treat this. In the past, someone suffering from leg weakness ate several sheng of chestnuts under a chestnut tree and was able to walk again. This is a method of tonifying the Kidney.
Treating cold-induced waist and leg coldness/pain in humans. (From *Bencao*)
Steam wheat bran until hot, place in a bag, and apply as a hot compress.
Indications: Coldness in the abdomen, pain in the waist and knees, frequent and white urination, impotence. (From *Bencao*)
Decoct Niuling Teng (Caulis Quisqualis) in water, take with wine.
Indications: Pain in the waist and knees, and traumatic injuries. (From *Bencao*)
Collect many deer horns, specifically cutting off the tips. Chop into flakes, soak in white honey, simmer gently until slightly discolored, dry in the sun, grind into powder, and sieve finely. Take with wine.
Indications: Accumulated cold pain in the waist and knees of men, or numbness and weakness. (From *Bencao*)
Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen, 1 liang, washed and weighed), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, 1 liang). Soak together in a silver vessel covered by 1 cun of wine. After five days, dry in the sun and grind into powder. Add a small amount of strong wine to the original soaking wine to make a paste, mix with the powder, and form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 20 pills on an empty stomach with wine.
There are those born with fox odor (fox stink), and those who contract it from others. Congenital cases are difficult to treat; acquired cases are easier. However, treatment requires three years of applying Vinegar-Fu Shi San (Calcined Alum Powder). Some suffer because the armpits fail to retain sweat, causing multiple layers of clothing to become soaked, though not necessarily smelly. Comparing these two conditions reveals distinct pathologies. Ancient formulas grouped them as one disease, which is not the most accurate theory. Yin and Yang in humans consist merely of Blood and Qi. When balanced, they flow and diffuse freely without stagnation, manifesting harmoniously in complexion and skin texture. If harmony is lost, Blood and Qi coagulate and accumulate, giving rise to fox odor. Symptoms vary: some call it Fox Odor, some Body Odor, some Leaking Armpit (Lou Ye). "Fox Odor" refers specifically to the axillary region; "Body Odor" is a general term; "Leaking Armpit" implies damp-heat generating sores. These must be distinguished.
