Ecliptae Herba (Han Lian Zi), Terminalia chebula Retz. fruit shell (Mo Shi Zi), Nelumbinis Folium (He Ye), and fresh porcine bristle (Huo Zhu Zong) are taken in equal superior proportions. First, stir-fry the bristles in an iron pot. Then add the remaining herbs, stir-fry together until charred black but retaining medicinal properties, and grind into ash.
Yi Zui San (One Drunken Powder) (from Desheng Tang Formula): Treats darkening of beard hair.
Lycii Fructus (Gou Qi Zi), Nelumbinis Plumula (Lian Zi Xin), Sophorae Tonkinensis Fructus (Huai Jiao Zi), and Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Sheng Di Huang) (each 4 liang). Soak in 1 dou of high-quality wine. Soak for five days in spring, three days in summer, seven days in autumn, and ten days in winter.
Huan Zi Fa (Method for Changing Beard Color) (from *Qian Jin Yi Fang* / *Sheng Hui Fang*)
Punica Granatum Pericarpium (Suan Shi Liu Pi) (3 liang, finely chopped), Mel Album (Bai Mi) (3 liang), Sulfur (Liu Huang) (1 liang, finely ground), and Vitriolum Viride (Lv Fan) (1 liang, finely ground). Mix the above ingredients uniformly and place them in a bottle.
Common Tooth-Rubbing Medicine for Darkening Beard and Temples (from *Bai Yi Xuan Fang*)
Natrii Chloridum Viride (Qing Yan) (1 liang, separately ground), Amygdalus Communis (Xing Ren) (2-3 liang, skin and tip removed), Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Shu Gan Di Huang) (washed clean), and Aconitum carmichaelii Debx. from Jingde (Jingde Wu Tou) (each 1 liang). Grind the above ingredients into powder.
Hei Zi Fang (Black Beard Formula) (from *Sheng Hui Fang*)
Rehmanniae Radix Sicca (Sheng Gan Di Huang) (5 liang), Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus (Zao Jia) (3 pods, free of insect damage, roasted until yellow and charred), Punica Granatum Pericarpium (Suan Shi Liu Pi) (3 liang), and Sulfur (Liu Huang) (3 liang, finely ground). Grind the above ingredients into powder.
Dao Liu You Wu Zi San Sheng Gao (Reverse Flow Oil Black Beard Three Sacred Paste) (from *Yu Yao Yuan Fang*)
Punica Granatum (both peel and seed used), Juglans Regia (Xin Hu Tao) (used with green husk), Diospyros Kaki (Xin Shi Zi) (green ones used with calyx). Take equal parts of each. Pound thoroughly in an iron mortar.
Wu Yun Gao (Black Cloud Ointment) (from *Yu Yao Yuan Fang*)
Magnetitum (Zhen Sha) (2 liang), Acetum (Cu) (1 sheng), and Fagopyri Dibotrys Semen Farina (Qiao Mian). Boil the first two ingredients together in an iron pot for more than ten boils. Add 8 qian of buckwheat flour to form a paste, adjusting the consistency to be neither too thin nor too thick.
