The manifestations of wind-pathogen invasion include: sudden fright alternating with joy, mental confusion and restlessness, and abnormal behavior. This is because the Heart is the root of life and houses the Shen (Spirit). When Heart Qi is deficient, the Shen becomes unanchored.
Dihuang Decoction Pill (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Treats Heart deficiency caused by wind-fright pathogen, combined with disharmony of cold and heat, qi accumulation under the left hypochondrium, which upon onset causes obstruction, distension, and anorexia.
Raw Rehmanniae Radix (juice, 6 sheng) Raw Asparagi Radix (juice, 5 sheng) Cow Marrow (5 he) Fresh Ginger Juice (7 he) Beef Butter (5 he) White Honey (5 he). Mix the above ingredients and simmer slowly over low heat until a paste is formed.

Treats wind-fright pathogen and all types of wind syndromes, characterized by impediment of limbs and joints, spasm and tightness of sinews and vessels, vertigo and headache, mental confusion, and palpitations.

Grind the above herbs into fine powder and mix thoroughly. Separately, take 2.5 liang of Benzoin Resin, pound it, and grind it with 1 sheng of wine, filtering out the dregs. Simmer the filtrate in a silver vessel over low heat until it forms a paste. Mix this paste with the herbal powder and pound in a mortar 300-500 times. Form pills the size of chicken heads. Chew one pill thoroughly each time and swallow with mint tea, at any time. For severe cases, add one more pill.
