Relieving Tiger Bite Poison
Drink a bowl of sesame oil, and there will be no harm. Still use Ge Gen Tang (Kudzu Root Decoction) to wash the injured area, dry it with cotton cloth, apply sesame oil, then make strips of blue cloth, ignite them, place them in a bamboo tube, and smoke the injured area with the smoke. For those with thirst, drink water mixed with rock sugar.
Snake Poison
Whenever bitten by a snake, immediately prick the wound with a needle to bleed, apply drugs such as Xiong Huang (Realgar) to the wound, but must leave one hole in the center to allow the poison gas to escape, then take internal detoxifying medicines. Both ends of the injured area should be tied tightly with rope so that the poison gas does not attack inward or spread through the meridians.
One prescription: To treat venomous snake bites, quickly take San Qi (Notoginseng Root), crush it, and apply it to the wound; the poison will dissipate, which is incredibly miraculous.
One prescription: To treat snake and insect bite poisoning, mix Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopterus Dung) and Xiong Huang (Realgar) in equal parts into powder. Take two qian each time, mixed with wine for administration, and still apply externally to the sore leaving an opening. If it dries out, moisten it with oil. Whenever living in damp and shady places in mountains and wilds, often use a pill of Xiong Huang (Realreg) the size of a paulownia seed, burn it to produce smoke to fumigate clothes, robes, quilts, etc., so that poison dare not invade, and all evils will stay far away.
First, if a snake enters the seven orifices, urgently moxa-burn the snake's tail. Another method: cut the snake's tail slightly with a knife, insert a few grains of Chuan Jiao (Sichuan Pepper), seal it with paper, and the snake will come out on its own. Immediately decoct Ren Shen Tang (Ginseng Decoction) with Xiong Huang (Realgar) and Zhu Sha (Cinnabar) powder, mix well, and administer orally, or eat garlic and drink alcohol, and the internal poison will be resolved.
First, people living in the mountains bitten by snakes should urgently wash the bite with urine, wipe dry, and moxa-burn it for immediate effect. Another prescription: Place slices of Du Tou Da Suan (Single-clove Garlic) on the affected area, moxa-burn on top of the garlic, change the garlic after every three moxa cones; more moxa-burning is better. It is effective for all venomous snake bites.
*Zhou Hou Fang*: Crush small suan (Allium macrostemon) to extract juice, drink it, and apply the residue to the wound.
Xiong Huang (Realgar) Repelling Snake Poison
The Nanhai region has many snakes, especially Guangfu. A certain Vice Minister serving as commander heard that Xiong Huang (Realgar) could suppress this poison, so he sold hundreds of taels of it, stored them separately in silk bags, and hung them in the four corners of his bedroom. After more than a month, one day, black liquid dripped from above outside the bed, smelling very foul. Someone wearing a ceiling covering looked up and saw a giant python lying dead and rotting on top. Then all obstructions were ordered to be removed. The dead snakes were over ten feet long and as thick as pillars; another dozen or so were found nearby, coiled into nests, along with hundreds driven out from other rooms. From then on, the official residence was peaceful and quiet.
Mad Dog Bites
Urgently suck out the bad blood from the wound in a windless place. If there is no blood, prick the skin with a needle to induce bleeding, wash with urine, and externally apply Xiong Huang (Realgar) mixed with a little She Xiang (Musk) in sesame oil. First, whenever encountering a vicious dog bite, if medicine is unavailable in haste, apply Bai Cao Shuang (Charred Herb Powder) mixed with sesame oil, or apply crushed scallion, cow dung, earthworm dung, or chewed bitter almond paste, all of which can save emergencies. If delayed even slightly, fear that the poison gas will enter the meridians and cause harm. One prescription: Pluck red hairs from the crown of the head, urgently have someone suck out the bad blood, moxa-burn the injured area five to seven cones; for severe cases, moxa-burn one hundred cones, which is miraculously effective. One prescription: Wash with rice washing water, apply rock sugar. One prescription: Stir-fry bitter almonds until black, crush into paste, and apply.
Method to Avoid Dogs
*Suo Sui Lu* says: Whenever encountering a vicious dog while walking, pinch the Yin position with the thumb of the left hand, blow a breath of air, then move to the Xu position and pinch it; the dog will retreat and crouch.
Nuomi San (Glutinous Rice Powder) Treating Mad Dog Bite Poison
Da Ban Mao (Large Mylabris Beetle) (21 pieces, remove heads, feet, and wings)
Take a pinch of glutinous rice. First, put seven Ban Mao into the rice, stir-fry slowly over low heat without letting them burn, then remove the beetles; add another seven, stir-fry until they turn scorched color, then remove; add the final seven, stir-fry until the rice turns red and smokes, then remove the beetles. Only grind the rice into powder. Divide into three portions. Mix one portion with cold water and a little sesame oil, take on an empty stomach. After a short while, take another portion. Continue until foul matter is discharged via urination and defecation. If abdominal pain occurs, urgently resolve it by mixing Qing Dian (Indigo Naturalis) with cold water, or first decoct Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) and Gan Cao (Licorice Root), let cool, and drink. Do not eat hot food. Alternatively, mix Yi Yuan San (Benefit Origin Powder) with cold water to resolve it, which is excellent. Severe cases must strictly avoid eating dog meat for life; I have seen cases where eating dog meat led to recurrence, which could not be saved. I have also seen deaths from taking only Ban Mao alone. Although Ban Mao is extremely toxic, and although "using poison to attack poison" is said, it should only be used in small doses. Here, using glutinous rice to neutralize its qi is particularly important. One must prepare Qing Dian (Indigo Naturalis) and Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) to detoxify it. How much more so for those taking only Ban Mao alone—would they not die?
*Bao Jian* Ding Feng San (Wind-Stabilizing Powder) Treating Various Dog Bite Poisons
Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizome, raw) Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root) (equal parts)
Grind into powder. Whenever bitten by a dog, first suck and wash the wound with mouthfuls of fermented grain water, or use urine or salt water. Wash clean, dry with cotton cloth, then apply the powder; the disease will not develop. Alternatively, use processed Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizome) one to two qian ground into powder, taken with child's urine. It can also treat tetanus.
Moxa-Burning Method for Dog Bites and Insect Stings
Whenever wounds from wild wolves, dogs, snakes, scorpions, centipedes, etc., are extremely critical, or when wind invasion causes lockjaw, opisthotonos, or unconsciousness, quickly slice garlic or crush it and apply to the wound, then moxa-burn through the garlic. Use twenty to thirty cones, or forty to fifty cones. There is no case that does not heal instantly. Many successes have been achieved. Thus, *Ben Cao* states that garlic treats sores and poisons, having the power to restore life. Accumulations in the intestines and stomach are difficult to treat; how much more so for limbs, where meridians are distant and drugs cannot easily reach? Therefore, ancients established methods like washing, moxibustion, and acupuncture precisely to unblock meridians, expel evil, and guide qi and blood.
Jie Du San (Detoxification Powder), also known as Guo Lao Yin (National Elder Drink). Treats Gu Poison (parasitic poisoning) and injuries from all snakes, insects, and fierce beasts. In severe cases, poison gas enters the abdomen, causing blackened eyes, locked jaw, and rigid limbs. This medicine is mild and does not damage healthy qi; it is highly effective and should not be neglected because it seems simple.
Ming Fan (Alum) Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (one tael each)
Grind into powder. Take two qian each time, mixed with cold water at any time. Can also be applied externally to the affected area.
Treating Horse Bites: If poison gas enters the heart, it is dangerous.
Crush Ma Chi Xian (Purslane) and decoct in water to drink. Externally, chew Li Zi (Chestnut) and apply to the wound.
Centipede Poison
Rub the bite site with salt, or wash with salt water; pain stops immediately. The following prescription for Scorpion Stings is best, already tested. One prescription: Chew Wu Zhu Yu (Evodia Fruit) and rub on the site, or apply mud from the bottom of a well.
Prescription for Accidentally Swallowing a Centipede
Once, a maid was blowing fire into a fire tube, unaware a centipede was inside. She blew towards the fire, the centipede startled and jumped into her mouth, swallowing down. She sought help, but no one knew what to do. Someone happened to say: Take a small chicken, cut its throat, collect the blood, drink it immediately, then pour in sesame oil to induce vomiting; the centipede will come out with the vomit.
Scorpion Sting Poison
Mix Sheng Ban Xia (Raw Pinellia Tuber) and Bai Fan (White Alum) in equal parts into powder, mix with vinegar, and apply to the wound (also treats centipede stings; alum can be omitted). Also, scorpions fear Dan Fan (Chalcanthite), and snakes fear Xiong Huang (Realgar). Xu Chunfu said: He personally saw scorpion sting swelling and pain disappear immediately after rubbing with Dan Fan (Chalcanthite). Thus, southern households must have Xiong Huang (Realgar), and northern households must have Dan Fan (Chalcanthite); this is the primary drug to subdue scorpions.
Relieving Bee Sting Poison
Wipe clean with urine, dry, and apply sesame oil. Or rub with Xiong Huang (Realgar) powder. Or treat with the Scorpion Sting prescription.
Treating Rat Bite Poison
Burn Mao Mao (Cat Hair) until carbonized, add a little She Xiang (Musk), mix with sesame oil, and apply to the wound; there will be no harm.
Treating Accidental Swallowing of Leeches
Once, a person drank water at night and accidentally swallowed a leech. It stayed in the abdomen for a long time, reproduced, ate liver blood, caused unbearable abdominal pain, yellowish emaciation, loss of appetite, and would surely lead to death if untreated. Prescription: Take a piece of field mud, three small dead fish, melt with pig fat, crush evenly. Add ten去皮 (de-oiled) Ba Dou (Croton Seeds), crush together with the fish fat mixture into pills the size of mung beans. Swallow with cold well water: adults take five to seven pills, children three pills. Soon, all leeches will be excreted. Then regulate with Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction).
Earthworm Poison
Soak Duan Shi (Calcined Oyster Shell) in hot water, let cool, and wash the affected area. Soaking for a long time leads to recovery. Children often suffer from earthworm poison, causing swelling of the penis and scrotum like blisters. Apply duck blood, or hold a duck's beak against the area for a short time to reduce swelling. One prescription: Wash with warm salt water for immediate effect.
Treating Silkworm Bite Poison: When silkworms bite humans, poison enters the flesh, causing chills and fever.
Crush Zhu Ye (Ramie Leaf) and apply, or apply the juice. Currently, silkworm farmers place ramie near silkworms, preventing their growth.
Relieving Spider Bite Poison
Mix Jiang Zhi (Ginger Juice) with Hu Fen (Lead White) and apply to the sore, or rub with clear oil, and internally drink sheep milk.
*Ben Cao* says: Spider bites cause the whole body to grow silk-like threads; only drinking sheep milk can resolve it. In the tenth year of Zhenyuan, Cui Yuanwai Congzhi reported witnessing someone bitten by a spider whose belly swelled like pregnancy; his family abandoned him, and he begged on the road. A monk taught him to drink sheep milk, and within a few days he recovered.
*Qing Nang* Shen Shou San (Divine Transmission Powder) Treating Transmitted Consumption Tuberculosis (Lao Zhai), for those whose qi and blood are not yet severely depleted. No need for multiple prescriptions; just take this medicine in the morning, and the parasites will not cause harm. All recover. This prescription was obtained from the Prince of Henan's mansion; its merit in saving lives cannot be fully described.
Chuan Jiao (Sichuan Pepper) (two sheng, remove split ones, lightly stir-fry to sweat)
Grind into fine powder. Take two qian mixed with rice water on an empty stomach. Or make pills with wine-boiled rice flour paste, size of paulownia seeds. Take thirty pills each time, gradually increasing to fifty or sixty pills, or take with wine.
Relieving "Shi Gong" Stream Poison (Fire-arrow Bug Poison). Cong Bai San (Scallion White Powder). Treats Shi Gong bugs in streams that shoot at pedestrians' shadows. Those infected fall ill resembling malaria or cold syndrome, commonly called "Fa Sha". Deep infections are fatal; urgently treat with the following prescription.
Cong Bai (Scallion White) (one handful, chopped) Chi (Fermented Soybeans) (half sheng) Ge Gen (Kudzu Root) (two liang) Sheng Ma (Cimicifuga Rhizome) (seven qian half)
Cut into bean-sized pieces. Take four qian bi per dose, two zhan of water, decoct to one zhan, strain. Take warm at any time, repeat after some time.
*Qian Jin* Xiong Huang Dui San (Realgar Mixing Powder) Treating Seasonal Qi Disease with lower body parasites.
Xiong Huang (Realgar) (half liang) Tao Ren (Peach Kernel) (one liang) Qing Xiang Zi (Celosia Seed) Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) Ku Shen (Sophora Root) (three liang each)
Grind these five ingredients into powder. Wrap in cotton cloth like a date pit, insert into the lower orifice. Can also take one fang cun bi mixed with jujube juice, three times daily.
*Qian Jin* Prescription for Itching Parasites in the Anus
Steam large jujubes until soft, make into paste. Mix with mercury, roll into sticks two to three cun long, wrap in cotton, insert into the anus overnight. By morning, all parasites will emerge. However, mercury damages the intestines; use with caution. I believe: Raw mercury is not necessary here. Just like treating head lice, burn the smoke and mix with jujube meat for application; this will be even better. The prescription for head lice is in Xin Yin.
Xiong She San (Realgar and Musk Powder) Treating Five Types of Gu Poison.
Ming Xiong Huang (Clear Realgar) She Xiang (Musk) (one zi each, separately ground)
Take a finger-sized piece of raw sheep lung, cut open with a knife, place the medicine inside, and swallow.
