Lijie Fengtong (Joint-wandering Wind Pain), characterized by its pain moving to different locations, belongs to the category of Xingbi (Wandering Bi Syndrome). The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states that Lijie Fengtong is caused by an inherent deficiency of Qi and Blood, or by drinking alcohol which opens the Couli (skin pores), followed by wind invasion while sweating; or due to fatigue and improper care, leading to the pathogens of Wind, Cold, and Dampness traversing all joints and battling with Qi and Blood, resulting in severe pain, sometimes described as being bitten by a tiger, hence the name "Baihu Lijie" (White Tiger Joint-Wandering Pain). The *Zhongzang Jing* (Classic of Internal Organs) states that Lijie pain is obtained from engaging in sexual activity after drunkenness; this is the general overview. Generally, Bingbi (Painful Bi Syndrome) often presents with milder symptoms during the day and heavier symptoms at night, which indicates Yin pathogens residing in the Yin aspect. Cases that worsen upon exposure to wind, rain, or overcast weather indicate Yin pathogens harassing Yang. Cases that worsen upon warming or heat exposure indicate a Fire syndrome where Damp-Heat injures Yin. For cases with Fire, cooling methods should be used; for cases with Cold, warming methods should be used. If tendons and vessels are spasmodic and stiff, with difficulty in extension and flexion, this is a syndrome of Blood deficiency and Blood dryness, requiring nourishment of Blood and Qi. All treatment methods should generally follow the principles mentioned above.
1. For any Bi syndrome presenting with pain, it is suitable to apply Huolong Gao (Fire Dragon Plaster) externally.
