Puncturing the Weizhong (BL40) acupoint to induce bleeding, or puncturing the tips of the ten fingers to induce bleeding, are both excellent methods. Currently, in the northwest regions, for those suffering from Cold Damage (Shanghan) where heat has entered the blood level and remains unresolved, all cases involve puncturing the tips of the fingers on both hands to induce bleeding. This method is called "Da Han" (Beating Cold), as the cold pathogen departs with the blood; it is also a form of "Red Sweat" (Honghan). Therefore, for any case of Cholera (Huoluan) caused by cold pathogens, this method is also suitable. In the southeast regions currently, there is a method called "Kuo Sha," used to treat acute pain in the heart and abdomen. This works by causing cold to gather with the blood, thereby driving the pathogen outward so that the Qi of the Zang organs can finally be pacified. This also embodies the principle of bloodletting.
For Cholera (Huoluan) with incessant vomiting and diarrhea, moxibustion at the Tianshu (ST25), Qihai (CV6), and Zhongwan (CV12) acupoints will lead to immediate recovery.
In critical cases of Cholera (Huoluan) nearing death, fill the umbilicus with salt and perform moxibustion for fourteen moxa cones (two sets of seven), which will lead to immediate recovery.
For muscle spasms (Zhuanjin) characterized by contracture of the ten fingers unable to flex or extend, perform moxibustion seven cones above the tip of the lateral malleolus of the foot.
