Nourishes Yin.
Freshly drawn water is suitable for treating diseases. (If the water is stagnant, turbid, and warm, it not only lacks benefit but also harms the human body.) It resolves heat oppression, vexation, and thirst. The first drawing in the early morning is best.
It is called Jinghua Water (Well Flower Water). Its efficacy is extremely broad. Its cool nature can clear heat, and its sweet taste can assist Yin. It is suitable for decocting herbs that nourish Yin as well as those regulating Qi, Blood, Phlegm, and Fire. (Among well waters, those flowing from distant earth veins are of the highest quality; those seeping from nearby rivers and lakes are secondary; those mixed with sewage from urban ditches become salty. Such water must be boiled, allowed to stand for a while until the saltiness settles, and then used; otherwise, the odor and taste are foul and unsuitable for medicine, food, tea, or wine. If the water is turbid after rain, add peach kernels or apricot kernels, grind them, and clarify it.)
Sweet and neutral in nature. Treats heart and abdominal pain, Zhu Wu (infectious disease attributed to evil spirits), Gui Qi (ghost qi), and other pathogenic influences. Drink it on an empty stomach by the spring. It also stops Xiao Ke (wasting-thirst syndrome), Fan Wei (regurgitation/vomiting), and Huo Luan (cholera-like disorder). Freshly drawn water is preferred. Also known as Gan Quan (Sweet Spring). (Li Shizhen said: "Li" refers to thin wine; the spring tastes like it, hence the name. Its source is unpredictable. When the virtue of the ruler reaches profound depths and the era is peaceful, Li Quan (Sweet Spring) emerges, which can be used for nourishing the elderly. Sun Rouzhi's *Ruiying Tu* states: "Li Quan is the essence of wells, tasting sweet as wine. Wherever it flows, grasses and trees flourish. Drinking it increases longevity." The *Dongguan Ji* records: "In the first year of Zhongyuan during Emperor Guangwu's reign, Li Quan emerged. Those in the capital who drank it were cured of chronic ailments.")
Sweet and neutral in nature. Long-term consumption leads to immortality, keeping the body moist and hair black. (Meng Shen said: "Wherever there are jade deposits, the springs in valleys and mountains are like this. Mountains with jade have moist vegetation; humans with jade have black hair. Since jade is a precious treasure and water possesses spiritual longevity properties, there is hope for extending life. People living near mountains often live long lives; is this not due to the benefits of jade fluids? Mount Taihua has jade, and water seeps into the soil; those who consume it often achieve longevity.")
Sweet and warm in nature. Long-term consumption makes one robust and healthy, improves appetite, keeps the body moist, and prevents aging. Its efficacy is similar to that of Zhongru (Stalactite). This is spring water flowing from areas near Ru Xue (Breast Caves). (People often use this water for drinking or brewing wine, which is highly beneficial. This water is thick and heavier than other waters when weighed; salt flowers appear on the surface when boiled. This is true Ru Ye (Milk Fluid).)
