Disperses Liver Qi and drains Lung Qi.
Bitter and pungent, warm in nature. Disperses Liver wind and drains Lung Qi. Overcomes dampness and breaks blood stasis. Induces labor and causes abortion. Unblocks lactation obstruction. Resolves masses (abdominal lumps). Carefully examining its substance, its action is merely draining. (Powdered Tribulus terrestris applied daily to the affected area is effective.)
Tonifies Kidney and secures Essence.
Bitter, warm in nature. Tonifies Kidney, strengthens Yin, benefits essence and brightens eyes. Treats deficiency exhaustion with lower back pain, spermatorrhea, leukorrhea, hemorrhoidal fistula, and genital itching. Its function secures essence. If there is frequent erection but difficulty in ejaculating during intercourse, it should not be taken. Produced from Tongguan, resembling a kidney bean, with a green color. (What is sold in current markets are all seeds of herbs and flowers; authentic Tongguan Tribulus is extremely rare.) Stir-fried before use. (Can also be used as tea.)
This refers to Motherwort Herb (Leonurus japonicus). Promotes circulation, removes blood stasis, and generates new blood.
Pungent, slightly bitter, slightly cold in nature. Enters the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. Reduces edema, promotes blood circulation, removes stasis and generates new blood, regulates menstruation, and detoxifies. (When blood stasis is removed, menstruation becomes regular.) Treats Blood-Wind syndrome, blood syncope, blood pain, strangury due to blood, fetal leakage, difficult labor, metrorrhagia, and leukorrhea. (The Dai Mai [Girdle Vessel] crosses horizontally at the waist; diseases arising here are named Dai; red discharge belongs to Blood, white discharge belongs to Qi; for Qi deficiency, tonify Middle Jiao and Qi with lifting properties; for Blood deficiency, nourish Blood and Yin while regulating Qi.) Resolves carbuncles, sores, and mastitis. (Also utilizes its ability to disperse stasis and detoxify.) Opens both urination and defecation. Its nature is pungent, dispersing, slippery, and lubricating, with absolutely no tonifying effect. Do not abuse it simply because of the name "Motherwort." It is especially contraindicated for those with dilated pupils. (For mastitis caused by weaning, powder Motherwort Herb, mix with water, apply to breasts, and it will subside overnight; fresh crushed application is also acceptable.)
Chongwei Zi (Herba Leonuri Fructus) Regulates menstruation and brightens eyes. (Suitable for eye diseases caused by blood stasis.) Invigorates blood, smooths Qi, and expels wind. (When blood is harmonious, Qi moves; when blood circulates, wind dissipates.) Treats mental restlessness and headache. (Caused by Blood-Heat.) Fetal and postpartum bleeding and leukorrhea. Facilitates conception. (Women with blood stasis or blood heat who take this may conceive. Li Shizhen stated: The root, stem, flower, leaf, and fruit of Motherwort can all be used together. For treating sores, fetal/postpartum issues, reducing edema, and promoting blood circulation, using all parts is appropriate. For treating Wind-Heat in the Blood aspect, brightening eyes, and regulating menstruation, the fruit is superior, as the root, stem, flower, and leaf are purely for dispersion, whereas the fruit has dispersive yet tonifying properties.) Although it is said to have dispersive yet tonifying properties, it remains a slippery and lubricating substance. It should not be given to those without blood stasis or blood heat. Dilated pupils are also within the list of contraindications. Lightly stir-fry. Avoid iron.
