**Field Frog (Rana temporaria):** Also known as "Wa." Resolves heat toxicity and promotes urination. Sweet and cold in nature. Resolves deficiency-heat and heat toxicity; promotes urination to reduce edema. Consuming it regulates malnutrition emaciation (Gan syndrome) and tonifies deficiency and damage, especially suitable for postpartum women. Administered as juice, it treats *Xia Ma Wen* (Toad Plague). (Dai Yuanli in *Zheng Zhi Yao Jue* records: For cases of generalized edema or isolated abdominal distension, consuming one or two field frogs, skinned and roasted, will cause the swelling to subside naturally. Jiamo states: An epidemic condition characterized by facial redness and neck swelling is named *Xia Ma Wen*; administering juice extracted from golden-striped frogs, mixed with water and drunk in one dose on an empty stomach, is extremely effective and has saved several lives.) Burned to ash and applied topically, it treats lunar eclipse sores.
**Centipede (Scolopendra subspinipes):** Disperses wind. Pungent, warm, and toxic. Enters the Jueyin Liver Meridian. It is adept at penetrating and dispersing stagnation. Treats umbilical convulsion (*Qi Feng Cuo Kou*). (Roasted, powdered, and taken with pig milk.) Treats fright epilepsy, scrofula (*Luo Li*), and snake-related disorders (it can subdue snakes). Treats nail ulcers (fleshy overgrowth under toenails, commonly called "chicken eyes"; apply centipede powder baked and ground, surrounded by a paste of Arisaema Cum Vinegar). Kills parasites and induces abortion. Select those with red feet and black heads. Roast over fire, remove head, feet, tail, and exoskeleton. Use together with mint leaves that have been baked in fire. Centipedes fear spiders. (If bitten, catch a spider, place it on the bite wound, and immerse in water; the spider will expel the venom, reviving the victim.) Centipedes fear slugs (they dare not cross paths where slugs have walked; contact causes death). Antidotes include chicken feces, mulberry bark, and salt. (For poisoning, apply mulberry sap, salt, and garlic.)
**Earthworm (Pheretima aspergillum):** Drains heat and moves fluids. Earthworms embody the virtue of earth and correspond to the Zhen Water constellation. Salty and cold in nature, thus capable of clearing heat. Their nature descends, thus capable of promoting urination. Treats febrile diseases with high fever and delirium, massive abdominal jaundice, and kidney wind Hong Kong foot (Su Song stated: Treating Hong Kong foot requires using this as a guiding herb). Treats severe heat. Administered with well water or incorporated into decoctions. Alternatively, dried and powdered, dissolved in salt water, lightly roasted, or burned to ash. (Poisoning is resolved with salt water.) Earthworm mud (i.e., earthworm feces), sweet and cold. Drains heat and resolves toxicity. Treats chronic dysentery with red and white discharge. Applied topically for infant scrotal heat swelling, mumps, and erysipelas. The above are all classified as damp-born organisms.
