(Su Mu, *Lignum Dalbergiae Odoriferae*) has the effects of purging, promoting blood circulation, and dispelling wind.
Sweet, salty, and acrid in flavor; neutral in nature. Enters the blood aspect of the Three Yin meridians. Promotes blood circulation and removes stasis. Disperses wind from the exterior and interior. (Li Yuan said: It is suitable to be used with Fangfeng (*Saposhnikoviae Radix*), but the mechanism by which this herb treats wind is precisely the principle that "to treat wind, first treat the blood; when blood flows, wind extinguishes itself," so it should not be used with Fangfeng.) Treats postpartum blood syncope and abdominal distension feeling as if death were imminent. (In Ge Hong's *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*, decocted juice is taken orally; in Haiyao Fang, Frankincense (*Ruxiang, Boswelliae Resina*) and wine are added. These applications are for excess patterns caused by postpartum failed blood rushing upward. If accompanied by deficiency-type panting, blackish complexion, and a sensation of impending death, it indicates failed blood invading the Lung due to deficiency. Use two liang of Su Mu, two bowls of water, decoct to one bowl, add one liang of Ginseng powder (*Renshen, Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma*), and adjust according to circumstances. The efficacy is miraculous beyond words. If there is excessive blood loss after childbirth, Qi follows Blood out, pulse is faint, spirit is fatigued, breath from mouth and nose is cold, and syncope occurs without stagnation in chest or abdomen, it is appropriate to use a large dose of Dushen Tang (*Ginseng Monoparty Decoction*) alone to secure the collapse.) Treats blood pain, blood stasis, amenorrhea, Qi congestion, carbuncles, and traumatic injuries. Expels pus and relieves pain. Contraindicated in cases without stasis. Originates from Sufang Country. (Therefore, iron is contraindicated. (Apply powdered Su Mu externally to fingers severed by knives or axes, bind tightly with silkworm cocoons externally, and the finger can be reattached.))
(Gan Qi, *Resina Toxodendri*) has the effects of purging, breaking blood stasis, eliminating accumulation, and killing parasites.
Acrid in flavor; warm in nature; toxic and fierce. Its function specializes in promoting blood circulation, killing parasites, and breaking deep-seated凝结 accumulations and blood stasis, reconnecting severed bones and tendons. (Trauma inevitably leads to blood stasis stagnation.) When blood encounters Gan Qi, it turns into water. Its ability to damage new blood can be inferred. Contraindicated for deficient individuals and those prone to severe skin ulcers. Do not be misled by Zhu Danxi's claim that Gan Qi also has tonifying properties. (All internal decoctions can resolve its toxicity; those suffering from lacquer dermatitis can bathe in it.) Stir-fry until smoke ceases. Or calcine to retain its character. Banxia (*Pinelliae Rhizoma*) serves as its guiding herb. Incompatible with Chuanjiao (*Zanthoxyli Pericarpium*), Zisu (*Perillae Folium*), eggs, and crabs. (Lacquer turns to water when encountering crabs.)
(Dafengzi, *Semis Crotonis Tiglii*) dries phlegm; externally used to treat sores.
Acrid in flavor; hot in nature; toxic. Extract the oil. Treats sores, tinea, scabies, and leprosy. Has the power to kill parasites and purge toxins. (Zhu Danxi said: Unskilled physicians treating Big Wind disease (*Elephantiasis*) assist with Dafengzi oil, unaware that this substance is hot in nature, has the effect of drying phlegm but damages blood, leading to cases where patients lose their sight before their illness heals.) Originates from Southern Barbarian lands. Contains white kernels inside the seeds. Over time, the oil turns yellow and becomes ineffective. Used in pill preparations, press out the oil. (*Shouyu Shenfang*, for treating cracked backs of hands, crush Dafengzi into a paste and apply.)
