Sha (Realgar)
Softens hard phlegm (Tan). Eliminates retained food (Su Shi). Salty and hot in nature, it can promote blood circulation to resolve stasis. When taken internally, one must know that its nature is toxic. It transforms meat accumulations. Removes masses and growths (Zheng Jia). Bitter and acrid in flavor, it can dissipate swelling. External application often yields extraordinary effects. (Realgar is produced in the salt marshes of hot regions. It inherits the Qi of Yin stones and contains the essence of Yin toxicity. Smelling it with the nose, one feels a steaming heat radiating outward. It can melt the five metals and eight minerals, and corrode the stomach and intestines. Its salty-hot nature and fierce toxicity are evident. Its functions are primarily suited for external treatment. Although there are formulas for internal use, they must not be used indiscriminately. In the Western Regions, there are volcanic mountains where smoke often emerges from fires within the mountain, causing the mountain to collapse, even bringing disaster to people and livestock far and wide. Those who mine Realgar must wear wooden-soled shoes; if the soles were made of leather, they would burn.)
Parasites are killed, the face is nourished. Acrid, cold, and heavy in nature. Clears heat, resolves phlegm, and is mostly used for external treatment. (Lead powder is made by melting lead. Mixed with bean flour and clam shell powder, and then calcined, it turns black. After ingestion, the stool also turns black. This is what is meant by "when color deteriorates, it returns to lead," restoring its original essence. However, due to its Yin-toxic nature, it is ultimately unsuitable for internal consumption. It can be used to make ointments for applying to sores.)
Rubbed externally, it removes ocular opacities. Heavy in nature, it anchors and pacifies the Liver. Decocted as a soup, it treats postpartum rebellious Qi and strangury. Acrid, neutral, and toxic. (Ancient coins generally refer to coins such as the Wuzhu or Banliang. Those with scorched-red copper tones or old coins covered in green verdigris are considered superior. Their main therapeutic actions are merely to suppress rebellious Qi, pacify the Liver, dispel evil influences, and remove ocular opacities.)
Tieluo (Iron Filings)
Pacifies the Liver and settles fright. Treats phlegm associated with wind-stroke convulsions and epilepsy. Treats mania caused by anger. It is a non-toxic, acrid, and neutral substance. (Tieluo refers to iron filings. Its main therapeutic properties and flavors are as described above.)
Yunmu Shi (Muscovite)
Sweet, neutral, and non-toxic. Moistens and enters the Lung Metal channel. When flown (calcined and powdered), it tonifies the Taiyin Lung. It repairs severe injuries, strengthens muscles, and brightens the complexion. It eradicates male malaria (Mu Nue). It dispels cold, anchors Yang, and restores comfort to the upright Qi. Although it has functions when refined and ingested, one must know that mineral drugs are fierce in nature. (Muscovite is found in valleys. Below are muscovite deposits, above are clouds; it is the essence of mountains and marshes, formed over time by condensing cloud Qi. Its white color corresponds to Metal. However, the nature of mineral drugs is fierce. Although there are theories about refining and ingesting them for tonification, these should not be blindly believed. This stone does not burn when put in fire, nor does it rot when buried, which is why people mystify this claim.)
