Refined in the same manner as cinnabar (Zhusha, 朱砂) with sulfur and mercury. It can dry dampness to promote pus discharge, with efficacy comparable to Mercurii Subchloridum (Qingfen, 轻粉). It can subdue phlegm and break up accumulations, kill parasites, and treat various conditions such as scabies. Its toxicity is potent, nature acrid and warm, primarily used for external application. (Yinzhu (Silver Cinnabar, 银朱) is produced by sublimating mercury and sulfur. Its properties differ slightly from Qingfen (Mercurii Subchloridum, 轻粉) regarding cold/heat nature, yet their therapeutic indications are similar. Its drying, acrid, ascending, and dispersing actions are more vigorous, making it suitable for external treatment but not for internal use.)
Yuyuliang (Hematitum Rubrum, 禹余粮)
It benefits the blood level of the Yangming channel. It treats dysentery and stabilizes deficiency; it can manage metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, securing the lower jiao. It embodies the essence of Taiyi Earth, is non-toxic, yellow in color, heavy in texture, sweet and neutral in taste with astringent properties, and possesses a balanced nature. (Yuyuliang (Hematitum Rubrum, 禹余粮) is found in valleys and marshes; it is yellow powder within stones or soil that has not yet turned to stone. Its texture is heavy, color yellow, taste sweet and astringent, and nature slightly cold. It is a drug for stabilizing and anchoring the blood level of the Foot and Hand Yangming channels.)
Daizheshi (Haematitum, 代赭石)
It eliminates belching and epigastric fullness; when treating deficient pathogenic factors, it must be used in heavy doses to anchor. It enters the Heart and Liver channels, capable of clearing bitter heat from the blood level. (Daizheshi (Haematitum, 代赭石) is found in the valleys of Dai Commandery. Some say there is red earth like ochre on the mountain and iron below, hence the stone resembles iron in form. Its main action is merely to anchor deficiency with heaviness and clear heat with coldness. Being red, it enters the Ying level, serving as a drug for the Foot and Hand Jueyin channels.)
Pishi (Realgar, 砒石 - *Note: Historically Pishi often referred to Realgar or Orpiment, here described as arsenic compound*)
Its heat and toxicity are rigid and fierce; it can dry phlegm and induce vomiting. With acrid, sour, and bitter flavors, it can arrest malaria and relieve asthma, wither hemorrhoids, kill parasites, and corrode sores and flesh. (Pishi (Arsenic Trioxide, 砒石) originates from Xinzhou; it is the "seed" of tin. Others say it is also found near copper mountains. The earth generates stones with varying innate qualities of good/poisonous and origins of cold/warmth; this applies to insects, plants, and trees, not just stones. Pishi is extremely hot and toxic. After being calcined into frost, its nature becomes even more violent. Although used in various internal and external formulas for its rapid effect in expelling pathogens, it must never be administered recklessly to avoid disaster.)
Shixie (Calcar Hominis / Crab Stone, 石蟹)
Its nature and flavor are salty and cold, excellent for resolving heat. Applied topically or massaged, it removes ocular nebulae and facilitates childbirth. (Shixie (Crab Stone, 石蟹) grows in the South Sea; it is an ordinary crab. After many years in rock crevices, combining with water foam, it turns to stone. It is found in coastal prefectures. Due to its salty, cold, and heavy nature, its therapeutic effects are as described above.)
