(Chai Hu) can drain the Large Intestine Qi.
(Chai Hu) is sweet and salty, cool in nature; it clears phlegm-heat from the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner) chest and diaphragm, softens hard accumulations (metaphorically described as rust on metal), and treats throat obstruction (Hou Bi) and various diseases of the mouth and teeth.
(Chai Hu) can disperse pathogenic factors from the Bladder channel.
(Chai Hu) is bitter and sour, slightly cold, with an astringent nature; it enters the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner), clears blood-heat to stop bleeding, and should be used after being charred. The tips of Chai Hu promote blood circulation.
(Chai Hu) can clear Heart fire.
(Chai Hu) can clear Heart fire.
(Chai Hu) can clear Heart fire.
(Chai Hu) can clear Kidney fire.
(Chai Hu) can clear Liver fire.
(Chai Hu) can circulate through and resolve Cold pathogens throughout the body.
(Chai Hu) can clear Stomach fire.
(Gua Lou / Trichosanthes Fruit) is sweet and bitter, cold in nature; it moistens the Lungs and clears Fire in the Upper Jiao, causing hot phlegm to descend. It also purges stagnant heat and turbid residues in the chest, regulates coughs, treats dysentery, stops thirst and bleeding, but has a laxative effect on the intestines. Recently, its seeds are often used, called "Lou Ren" (Trichosanthes Seed); although their oily moisture is valued, they are considered too turbid and cloying.
(Chai Hu) can clear Small Intestine Cold.
(Chai Hu) can clear Heart fire.
(Chai Hu) can clear Stomach fire.
(Chai Hu) can clear Heart fire.
(Chai Hu) is bitter and sweet, cool in nature; it clears exogenous heat from the Heart and Lungs in the Upper Jiao.
(Chai Hu) is sweet and salty, very cold and slippery; it removes floating heat from the Upper Jiao and stimulates deficiency-cold in the lower part of the body.
(Chai Hu) can clear Stomach fire.
(Chai Hu) can clear Bladder Cold.
(Chai Hu) can clear Lung fire.
(Chai Hu) is sweet and moist; when raw, it is sour and neutral, specifically tonifying the Liver and Gallbladder. When stir-fried, it becomes sour, warm, and aromatic, also awakening the Spleen, consolidating sweat, calming the Heart, and treating insomnia due to Gallbladder deficiency. It should not be used if there is pathogenic heat in the Liver and Gallbladder.
(Chai Hu) is acrid and warm, ascending and floating; it enters the Pericardium and Liver channels. It serves as a guiding herb for the Gallbladder channel and is a Qi-moving agent within the Blood. It raises Yang Qi, resolves depression, moistens Liver dryness, and tonifies Liver deficiency. It ascends to the head and eyes and descends to the Sea of Blood. It harmonizes Blood, moves Qi, searches out Wind, dissipates stasis, regulates menstruation, and treats sores. It manages all diseases caused by Wind-Wood (Liver Wind).
(Chai Hu) can harmonize Liver Qi.
(Chai Hu) can harmonize Heart Qi.
(Chai Hu) can harmonize Stomach Qi.
(Chai Hu) is acrid, bitter, and sweet, neutral in nature, with a descending property. It directs Qi downward, promotes water metabolism, tonifies Blood, and moistens dryness. When combined with wine, it enters the Gallbladder channel. The skin and tips should be removed. It is a symptomatic treatment agent; those with insufficient Body Fluids should use it with caution.
(Chai Hu) is sour, astringent, and acrid, cold in nature; it enters the Gallbladder channel. Its nature is astringent yet ascending; it induces vomiting of Wind-Heat and phlegm-saliva, arrests rebellious cough, disperses Wind-Wood and Ministerial Fire, and kills parasites.
(Chai Hu) can soothe the Liver.
(Chai Hu) can disperse Liver pathogens.
(Chai Hu) can disperse Liver pathogens.
(Chai Hu) is bitter, slightly cold, and acts as a surface-releasing herb for the Gallbladder channel. It can raise sunken Yang Qi, guide clear Qi upward, and pacify pathogenic heat in the Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) and Jueyin (Terminal Yin) channels. It unblocks and smooths Qi and Blood. Freshly used, it regulates menstruation. It releases the exterior and is particularly effective at harmonizing the interior. It also treats Heat entering the Blood Chamber and dissipates sores and abscesses across the twelve channels. If taken when the disease is in the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel, it may lead the pathogen inside ("invite the thief into the house"). If taken when the disease has entered the Yin channels, it will further weaken the exterior. Therefore, its use requires careful deliberation. Yin Chai Hu (Radix Cynanchi Stauntonii) specifically treats bone-steaming consumptive fever and the five types of pediatric malnutrition (Wu Gan).
