Tao Fu (Peach Wood Charm) primarily treats Zhong E (sudden severe illness caused by evil qi), Jing Mei (spiritual demons), and Xie Qi (pathogenic factors); decoct in water for oral administration (from *Yao Xing Ben Cao*). [Origin] (Li Shizhen states) *Feng Su Tong* records: On Dushuo Mountain in the East Sea, there is a giant peach tree spreading over a thousand li. To its north lies the Gate of Ghosts, guarded by two deities named Shenshu and Yulei, who command all ghosts. The Yellow Emperor therefore erected wooden boards on doors, painting images of these two deities to ward off malevolent ghosts and evil influences. [Season] (Growth) No fixed season. (Harvest) No fixed season; harvest as needed. [Usage] Select peach trees facing the sun. [Substance] (*Dian Shu* states) Peach is the wood of the West, the essence of the five woods, and an immortal wood. It is carved into large and small wooden boards for use. [Color] Yellowish-white. [Taste] Acrid (Xin). [Nature] Warm. [Qi/Aroma] Dislikes evil; thus it can suppress and subdue pathogenic qi and control hundred ghosts. [Formulation & Treatment] (From Qian Yi's *Xiao Er Fang*) Tao Fu Yuan (Peach Charm Pill) is used to disperse accumulated heat and treat Jie Xiong (chest binding syndrome). Use Radix Scammoniae Preparata (Badou Shuang) and Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (Dahuang) each 1 qian 1 fen, Qing Fen (Calomelas), and Sha (Realgar) each half qian. Grind into fine powder, bind with wheat paste, and form pills the size of millet seeds. Adults and children take according to severity, washed down with Tao Fu Tang (Peach Charm Decoction); if unavailable, replace with Tao Zhi (Peach Twig). This is because Peach has a rapid purgative effect on the Large Intestine, combining with the meaning of suppressing evil. [Explanation] Modern people...

Ma Bian (Horse Whip) treats Chuang (sores/ulcers) caused by Ma Han Qi (horse sweat qi) entering the wound, or horse hair entering the wound, leading to Zhong Du (toxic swelling), Fan Re (restlessness and fever), and even death if it enters the abdomen. Burn the whip skin to ash, mix with ointment, and apply externally (from *Ben Cao Gang Mu*). [Name] Ma Ce (from Li Shizhen): Made with a bamboo handle and woven leather, hence "Bian" contains the radical for leather, and "Ce" contains the radical for bamboo, forming a compound ideograph. [Formulation & Treatment] (From Li Shizhen's prescription) Treats Hu Niao Ci Chuang (fox urine prickly sore) with swelling and pain. Take 2 cun of whip tip and 14 mouse droppings, burn and grind into powder, mix with ointment, and apply.

It also treats Ding Chuang (carbuncle) and E Zhong (malignant swelling); scrape the inner wood (Ru) of the arrow shaft to use as moxa cones, applying 7 moxibustion sessions (from *Ben Cao Gang Mu*).
