[Guangming Yan (Light Salt)]
Non-toxic, produced in the earth.
Guangming Yan (Light Salt) [Rock Salt] primarily treats various wind pathogens affecting the head and face, causing redness and pain of the eyes, excessive eye discharge (pronounced 'chi'), and tearing (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Names] Shi Yan (Stone Salt), Sheng Shi (Holy Stone). [Origin] According to *Tu Jing* (Illustrated Classic): Produced by digging below the Yanyuan Salt Pool in Yanzhou State. The large pieces are like a sheng (unit of measure), all square-shaped, bright and transparent. Additionally, Jiazhou has a type growing in mountain rocks, formed naturally without boiling or refining, with very clear and bright color; locals highly value it, saying this is Guangming Yan. [Harvesting Time] (Growth) Available at any time. (Collection) Collectible at any time. [Usage] White, clean, bright, and transparent pieces are preferred. [Texture] Similar to Calcite. [Color] White.
[Lv Yan (Green Salt)]
Non-toxic, produced in earth and stone.
Lv Yan (Green Salt) primarily treats red eyes, tearing, skin nebulae, and dim eye discharge (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Origin] According to *Tu Jing*: Made into blocks by fermenting Guangming Yan with bronze powder from sand, resulting in a green color. The truly natural ones are found under stones in water in Yanqi Kingdom, resembling Bian Qing (Blue Malachite) and Kong Qing (Hollow Malachite) (According to *Bie Lu*); those from Persia grow on stones. Those brought by ship are called Shi Lv (Stone Green). Their color remains unchanged over time. Those manufactured in China using copper and vinegar are unsuitable for medicinal use, and their color does not last long. [Harvesting Time] (Growth) Available at any time. (Collection) Collectible at any time. [Usage] Green, solid blocks are good. [Texture] Shape resembles Bian Qing and Kong Qing. [Color] Green. [Taste] Salty, Bitter, Pungent. [Nature] Neutral. [Qi and Flavor] The flavor is stronger than the qi; belongs to Yin within Yang. [Odor] Rotten odor. [Main Efficacy] Brightens the eyes, eliminates nebulae. [Processing] Grind into fine powder for use. [Treatment] (According to *Hai Yao Ben Cao*) Treats infantum malnutrition (Wugu Gan Qi) in children.
[Tie (Iron)]
Toxic, produced in the earth.
Tie (Iron) [Ferrous Metal] primarily firms muscles and increases tolerance to pain (Shennong Ben Cao). [Origin] According to *Tu Jing*: When referred to simply as "Iron," it means Iron. Various types of iron are not limited to specific provinces. Currently, wherever there are smelting furnaces in Jiangnan and Western Shu, iron is available. Iron is known as Black Gold. Its body is hard and heavy; only after smelting can it be fashioned into vessels. There are raw iron, cooked iron, steel, refined iron, fallen iron, powdered iron, as well as Hua Fen (Flower Powder), Yin Fen (Seed Powder), etc., listed by Qi Wenli. Iron that is beaten repeatedly to make it is also called cooked iron. [Harvesting Time] (Collection) Collectible at any time. [Usage] Tie (Iron). [Texture] Similar to Magnetite. [Color] Black. [Taste] Pungent. [Nature] Neutral and dispersing. [Qi and Flavor] The qi is thin; belongs to Yin within Yang. [Odor] Fishy smell. [Antagonism/Fear] Feels adverse to Cishi (Magnetite), Duanshi (Smelted Stone), and Tan (Charcoal). [Detoxification] Resolves the toxicity of Shiting Zhi (Stalactite).
