[Background Information]
Book: *Bencao Huijing Jingyao* (Essential Collection of Materia Medica)
Author: Wang Haogu
Dynasty: Yuan
Chapter: Stone / Stone / Earth
Category: Materia Medica
Non-toxic. **Dishi** (Grindstone) grows in soil.
**Lishi** (Coarse grindstone) primarily treats the breaking up of old blood stasis, alleviates stone strangury (urinary calculi), eliminates masses and accumulations, and expels evil qi. It is heated red-hot and thrown into hot wine for drinking. (Recorded by Famous Physicians)
[Name] Grindstone.
[Origin]
(The juice from extremely fine grindstones applied to the eyes removes visual obscurity; when heated red-hot and thrown into wine, it breaks blood masses and relieves pain. Its efficacy is identical, and its name is similar; it should be Lishi. The commentary on *Yu Gong* states: "Dishi is finer than Lishi; both are grindstones.")
[Collection Time] Anytime.
[Odor] Rotten odor.
[Processing] Ground into fine powder and processed using the water flotation method (water flying).
[Treatment] (According to *Tujing Bencao*) Grindstone. Applied externally to treat Qu Su Niao Chuang (a type of skin ulcer with purulent discharge).
Non-toxic. **Yushi** (Arsenopyrite/Arsenic mineral) grows in stones.
**Taohua Shi** (Peach Blossom Stone) primarily treats cold-induced dysentery with pus and blood in the large intestine. Long-term use makes the flesh plump and increases appetite. (Recorded by Famous Physicians)
[Origin]
(According to *Tujing Bencao*, the *Shennong Ben Cao Jing* does not record its origin province. The annotation states it comes from Zhongshan County, Shenzhou, and is also found in Xinzhou today. It occurs in lumps resembling **Chishizhi** (Red Kaolin) or **Zi Shiyun** (Purple Fluorspar). Its color resembles peach blossoms, it is glossy and smooth, and heavy. The best quality is that which does not stick to the tongue when licked. Tao Hongjing explained Chishizhi as follows: those from Yiyang resemble pig brain and are bright red and lovely. Su Gong disagreed, stating this is actually Taohua Shi.)
(According to *Yanyi*), Taohua Shi has red and white varieties. Some have a red base with pale white spots like peach petals; others have a pale white base with pale red spots like peach petals. People often carve and polish them into vessels. Nowadays, few people consume it orally.
[Collection Time] Anytime.
[Usage] The best quality is that which does not stick to the tongue when licked.

Non-toxic. **Shinao** (Stone Brain) grows in stones.
**Shinao** primarily treats deficiency and damage caused by wind-cold, pain and bi-syndrome in the waist and legs, calms the five zang organs, and benefits qi. (Recorded by Famous Physicians)
[Name] Shi Yi Bing (Stone Glutinous Cake).
[Origin]
(Tao Hongjing says it grows in the earth and stones of famous mountains. This stone is a type of **Zhongru** (Stalactite). Its shape resembles **Cengqing** (Azurite) but is white with black spots. It is soft and easily broken. Today, caves are dug in the earth at Mount Mao (east and west) and Xiping Mountain to extract it. It is not seen in common prescriptions, but appears in immortal scriptures such as Liu Jun's Daoxian San. Furthermore, *Zhen Gao* records that Li Zheng consumed it to treat wind-bi and deficiency, achieving longevity. The *Tang Ben Cao* annotation adds that during the Sui Dynasty, a monk named Hua Gong consumed what was also called Shinao, sourced from Songli Mountain, Xuzhou. Initially found in rotten stones, digging down more than one zhang yielded pieces the size of chicken eggs or dates. They crumble upon touch, resembling yellow-white flour. Locals call it Wo Xue Yu Shi (Snow-Holding Arsenopyrite). This stone is actually not the inferior grade Wo Xue Yu Shi.)
[Growth/Collection Time] No specific time.
