[Indications]
Treats gynecological diseases and dispels wind while promoting diuresis. It can also be used to facilitate childbirth. Its efficacy in treating goiter (thyroid enlargement) and scrofula (subcutaneous nodules) is equivalent to that of Sargassum Herba (Haisei).

[Odor and Flavor]
Sweet and pungent in flavor, warm in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications]
Treats borborygmus (intestinal rumbling). Treats Xiao Ke (wasting-thirst syndrome) caused by heat in the middle jiao. Treats Feng Bi (wind-dampness bi-syndrome characterized by joint pain and numbness) and Yin Zhen (urticaria/hives). When stir-fried until yellow, placed in a cloth bag, and soaked in wine, it dispels wind and relieves immobility of various joints. It treats stubborn skin paralysis. It treats cold blood and blood stasis. It treats cold pain in the waist and legs, as well as women's metrorrhagia (profuse uterine bleeding), Tou Feng (head wind/headache and dizziness), and Feng Chi Yan (red eye disease). It has the effects of dispelling wind and removing dampness. Since silkworm belongs to Fire, its nature is drying; dryness can overcome wind and remove dampness. Therefore, it mainly treats wind-dampness diseases.
[Odor and Flavor]
Sweet and pungent in flavor, neutral in nature, toxic.

Disperses cold pus from the waist and hips. Eliminates retained food. Descends qi and breaks up adverse qi accumulation. Drains water from the four limbs. Taken with wine, forty-nine seeds can drain knotted qi, break blood stasis, and moisten dryness. It specifically treats constipation and dryness due to qi stagnation in the the Large Intestine. Ground and mixed with Borneol (Long Nao) for instillation in red eyes. Because Prunus japonica Seed (Yuli Ren) is sweet, bitter, and moistening, and its nature is descending, it can descend qi and promote diuresis.
(Alias: Mai Ya [Malt].)
[Odor and Flavor]
Salty in flavor, warm in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications]
Promotes digestion and harmonizes the middle jiao. Breaks up cold qi. Removes fullness and distension in the heart and abdomen. Opens the appetite. Stops cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea. Removes vexation and stuffiness. Transforms phlegm-fluid retention. Breaks up mass formations. Can facilitate childbirth and induce abortion. Tonifies deficiency of the Spleen and Stomach. Broadens the intestines and descends qi. Used for those with abdominal borborygmus. Wheat, Gu Ya (Rice Sprout), and Su Mi (Millet) can all digest accumulations of rice, flour, fruits, and other foods. Among them, Mai Ya (Malt) and Shen Qu (Medicated Leaven) are suitable for people with weak Stomach Qi, serving to replace the Stomach's function of rotting and ripening food and fluids. Cardamom, Amomum fruit (Su Sha), Dark Plum (Wu Mei), Quince (Mu Gua), White Peony Root (Shao Yao), and Schisandra Berry (Wu Wei Zi) act as guiding herbs. They can digest only when there are accumulations; if taken for a long time without accumulations, they will consume the body's Yuan Qi. This must not be ignored. If taken for a long time, they must be used concurrently with Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) and other herbs to avoid harm.
