[Scent and Flavor]
Salty, cold in nature, toxic. It is a primary herb for the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian.
[Indications]
Promotes lactation. Clears heat toxins. Discharges pus, stops bleeding, and promotes tissue regeneration. Kills parasites. Treats breast abscess (Ru Yong) and scrofula (Luo Li). Resolves heat during smallpox/chickenpox eruptions. In ancient prescriptions, Loulu Decoction (Loulu Tang) is commonly used to treat early-stage carbuncles and sores, where Loulu holds the foremost efficacy.
[Scent and Flavor]
Salty and sweet, cold in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications]
Treats infantile convulsions and epilepsy, night crying. Treats alternating chills and fever, fright, and palpitations. Treats difficulty in lactation in women. Treats retained placenta. Kills intestinal parasites (Guan Chong). Clears high fever. Treats abnormal bowel sounds (rumbling). Treats slow or difficult eruption of skin rashes. Treats itching caused by wind-heat in smallpox/chickenpox. Treats headache due to wind-dizziness. Treats tetanus and carbuncle/boil toxicity. Removes visual obscurations and cataracts. Cicada is transformed from residual qi of earth and wood, drinking wind and absorbing dew; its qi is clear and empty. Therefore, it treats all wind-heat syndromes. Ancients used the adult cicada body, while later generations used the cicada slough (Chan Tui). Generally, for treating zang-fu organs and meridians, the cicada body should be used; for treating skin sores and wind-heat, the cicada slough should be used, each according to its affinity. Additionally, it treats aphonia and night crying, taking advantage of its characteristic of chirping during the day and resting at night.
(Those with red eyes and lacking the "eight-character" pattern on the abdomen are unusable.)
[Scent and Flavor]
Pungent, cool in nature, slightly toxic.

It is an essential herb for treating guan disease, carbuncles, and various sores. Generally, this substance can attack and extract toxins. Qian Yi (Qian Shi) used it as the sovereign drug in Rusheng Pill (Rusheng Wan) to treat infantile guan diarrhea and stubborn heat, achieving excellent results.
