Sweet, slightly cold, non-toxic. Yin within Yang. A Qi-moving herb acting in the Blood level. Enters the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian and Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian. It can circulate Qi through the Twelve Regular Meridians and Eight Extraordinary Vessels. (When processed with salt, urine, wine, or vinegar, follow the specific prescription's instructions.)
[Indications]
All types of Qi stagnation, including Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome) with vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Coldness of Kidney Qi and Bladder. Promotes digestion, directs Qi downward. Materia Medica does not mention its use for treating Benglou (metrorrhagia and metrostaxis). However, it is used in prescriptions for this condition because it tonifies Qi to stop bleeding. It also expels stagnant blood, using blood-level herbs as guides to introduce efficacy into the Qi level to generate blood, embodying the principle that "when Yang grows, Yin increases."
(When used, remove the lateral roots and central woody core. Soak in rice wash water for seven days, mix with wine, and steam for one Fu period (approx. two hours). For every jin [500g] of Cyperi Rhizoma, soak and bake with 12 liang of fresh juice from Polygonatum sibiricum. Repeat soaking and baking until the juice is absorbed. This method is for dietary therapy. For common use, either raw or stir-fried, according to the specific prescription.)

[Indications]
Hematemesis (vomiting blood), epistaxis (nosebleed), bloody dysentery, Benglou with red and white leukorrhea. Lightens the body and tonifies Qi, enabling tolerance to cold and heat. Burning leaves to extract juice and applying it to the head darkens and moisturizes hair. Applying to scalds and burns relieves pain and reduces scarring. Ingestion treats Gu-li (dysentery caused by parasites or toxins). Decoction taken regularly kills parasites in the Five Zang organs and benefits the human body. Cypress belongs to Yin and harmonizes well with Metal, possessing a guarding nature. Therefore, harvesting its leaves follows the lunar months to acquire the Qi of the season. This is a key herb for tonifying Yin.
Its nature is drying; long-term use greatly benefits Spleen Earth, thereby nourishing Lung Metal. Cypress sheds leaves late and endures time, possessing a firm and solid quality, making it a long-lived tree. Thus, it is suitable for dietary therapy. Taoists brew it in tea for daily drinking and soak it in wine on New Year's Day to ward off evil spirits, all utilizing these properties.
