[Mu Jin (Hibiscus Mutabilis)]
Bitter in taste, cool in nature. Enters the Hand and Foot Taiyin and Jueyin meridians. Its function is specifically to invigorate blood and moisten dryness. It treats intestinal wind with bloody stool and heat-thirst following dysentery. Prepared as a drink, it enables sleep. Soak in soapy water, or use the extracted juice mixed with Realgar (Xionghuang) for external application on stubborn tinea and insect sores, which is effective. Use two liang of Hibiscus bark, half a bowl of wine, decoct to one bowl. Take on an empty stomach to treat leukorrhea. For red discharge, take with white wine; for white discharge, take with red wine, which is best. Those produced in Sichuan are superior. Do not take in large amounts. It is inappropriate to include it in decoctions.
[Zao Jiao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit)]
Bitter in taste, cool in nature. The nature is descending and heavy. Enters the Hand Yangming meridian. Its function is specifically to promote urination and unblock the intestines. Its efficacy surpasses that of Euphorbia pekinensis (Dajix). It treats carbuncles and sores, and resolves arsenic poisoning. For those suffering from swelling/toxins or arsenic poisoning, regardless of whether roots, bark, flowers, or leaves are used, crush and extract juice, drink abundantly. Recovery occurs through profuse diarrhea. Apply oil to insect sores for good effect. Contraindicated in deficiency cases. Seeds can be made into candles.

[Zao Jiao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit) - Detailed Properties & Derivatives]
Pungent and salty in taste. Dry in nature. Qi floats and disperses. Enters the Hand Taiyin, Hand Yangming, and Foot Jueyin meridians. Its function is specifically to search out wind and drain heat, open orifices, and expel phlegm-saliva. Snuffing induces immediate sneezing. It treats facial paralysis with locked jaw (Zhong Feng Kou Jin), chest bi syndrome, and throat bi syndrome. It removes dampness and dirt, dissolves phlegm, breaks hardness, kills parasites, and promotes abortion. It also treats rheumatic wind, leprosy-like conditions, wheezing, swelling, phlegm obstruction, hard accumulations, and scrotal knots. Combined with Alum (Baifan), it treats stroke with loss of consciousness and locked jaw. Taking the ash alone treats elderly constipation due to wind. In case of accidentally swallowing iron objects, taking the powdered ash is miraculous. Burning Gleditsia fruit in an iron pot causes the pot to shatter like powder, demonstrating its ability to dissolve iron. Remove skin, seeds, and membranes. Can be honey-fried or su-fried. Extract juice and burn to ash. Use Platycladi Semen (Baishi) as a guiding herb. Adverse reaction with Ophiopogon tuber (Maidong). Feared by Ginseng (Renshen) and Sophora root (Kushen). Zao Ci (Gleditsia Spine) is pungent and warm. Its function is similar to Gleditsia fruit. It treats swelling/toxins, "Du Ru" (mastitis where milk fails to exit and forms a lump internally), breast abscess, and blocked lactation. Do not use if ulcerated. Fan Zao Jiao (Soap Pod) is pungent, warm, and slightly toxic. It dispels wind-dampness and removes greasiness. Effective for any strange ulcers or malignant toxins. Use raw pods, seeds, membranes, and veins, crush them, mix with vinegar, and apply externally for immediate healing. Reapply if not healed. Miraculous verification. Avoid iron.
