Huarui Shi (Flower Porphyry Stone) is extremely effective in treating various hemorrhagic syndromes and is best at resolving blood stasis. It should be taken with wine, applicable to both men and women. Only one fen (approx. 3g) should be mixed with wine for administration; once taken, the blood stasis will transform into yellow fluid. It is truly a miraculous drug for eliminating pathogenic factors and the most rapid method for resolving blood stasis. External application is also highly effective; applying it to open wounds from metal injuries promotes immediate healing. For postpartum syncope due to blood loss, having the patient lick the tongue brings immediate relief, demonstrating an incredible efficacy. Therefore, it is recorded here for emergency use. However, the dosage must not exceed two fen; excessive use may cause harm.
Huarui Shi is difficult to process; it must be ground until no sound is produced, otherwise it should not be lightly used. The finer the powder, the better. If there is no blood stasis stagnating in the abdomen, it should not be ingested. If chest and diaphragm pain feels like a horizontal obstruction caused by internal injury leading to blood coagulation, resulting in fire flaring up and causing hematemesis, it should not be lightly used for internal treatment.
Fanshi (Alum), with a sour taste and cold nature, is non-toxic. It removes nasal polyps, clears heat from the bone marrow, treats throat obstruction (hou bi), stops eye pain, arrests diarrhea, and relieves toothache. Washing prolapsed rectum with it astringes the intestines; applying it to suppurative sores dries exudate; inducing vomiting of wind-phlegm opens orifices; and reducing abscesses protects mucous membranes. External treatment is very effective, and internal treatment is also miraculous, but it can only be used temporarily, not chronically.
One might doubt that since Fanshi has a sour taste, it should astringe toxins rather than resolve them. Why is it used in carbuncle and ulcer conditions where toxins are easily resolved? The resolution of toxins by Fanshi lies precisely in its sour taste. Fanshi is a tangible substance, but when added to decoctions, it transforms from tangible to intangible. Retaining the sour flavor within powder forms allows dispersion to occur within the astringency, thereby detoxifying without dispersing healthy qi. This is why its efficacy is even more miraculous.
Someone asked: Qibo stated, "Long-term consumption of Fanshi damages bones." Is this true? The answer is: Fanshi has an urgent and drying nature, capable of劫夺 (seizing/destroying) body fluids, thus detrimental to bones and teeth, as teeth are considered the surplus of bones. Individuals with deficient kidney water must absolutely avoid using it lightly, lest their already depleted fluids be further exhausted.
Cishi (Magnetite), with bitter and salty tastes, is non-toxic. Another view states it is neutral, sweet, warm, and astringent. It is the mother of iron. It should be calcined in fire seven times, quenched in vinegar seven times, ground finely, and processed by water levigation before use. It specifically eliminates iron toxicity, clears severe heat and fullness, and removes generalized bi-syndrome soreness. Wrapped in cotton for treating deafness; mixed with medicine for eye drops to treat blurred vision. It strengthens bones, benefits the kidneys, unblocks joint articulations, eliminates carbuncles and sores, expels wind-pathogens associated with fright-epilepsy, and dispels neck masses and throat pain. Drinking water stirred by magnetite can induce pregnancy. If a needle is accidentally swallowed into the throat, quickly administering something tied with a thread can guide and pull out the needle, showing remarkable effect. Due to its heavy nature, it is a formula for dispelling fear. It is indispensable in the medicine cabinet and is therefore recorded.
Cishi treats throat pain because the throat is affected by deficiency-fire rushing upward from the Foot-Shaoyang and Foot-Shaoyin meridians. Cishi enters the Kidney via its salty taste; its nature is heavy, sinking, and downward-attracting, allowing fire to return to its origin. When fire returns downward, upper pain naturally ceases. The Kidney is the organ of extreme yin and cold water. Since Cishi is black and enters the water element, it benefits the Kidney, strengthens bones, generates essence, opens orifices, consolidates qi, and secures against leakage.
