Pungent, warm, bitter, astringent, non-toxic, with a floating nature. Enters the seven meridians: Hand Taiyin, Hand Yangming, Hand Taiyang, Foot Taiyin, Foot Yangming, Foot Taiyang, and Foot Shaoyin. It promotes qi circulation and regulates the middle jiao (middle burner), aids digestion, resolves alcohol intoxication, relieves pain, calms the fetus, stops vomiting, and halts diarrhea. It is an agent for treating diseases such as dysphagia and chest/epigastric distension and stuffiness, and a formula for conditions involving metrorrhagia, leukorrhea, wheezing, and phlegm. It serves as a remedy for upper qi cough, and a medicine for cholera with muscle cramps. It disperses heat in the throat, mouth, and teeth, and dissolves hardness caused by fish or bone splinters. It eliminates abdominal pain and unblocks stagnation, treats ben tun (a condition characterized by a sensation of gas rushing up from the lower abdomen to the heart/chest), and cures convulsions and epilepsy. It is an excellent agent for warming and drying the liver and kidneys, and a miraculous elixir for tonifying and benefiting the spleen and stomach.
It originates from the Western Seas and various countries of the Western Regions and Persia. Currently, it is only found in the mountains and marshes of Lingnan. Its seedlings and stems resemble Galangal Rhizome (Gao Liang Jiang), growing three to four chi high. It flowers below the roots in the third and fourth lunar months. The fruits are harvested in autumn; they have a pungent and fragrant taste and are widely used in the food industry. Note that the "Sharen rice" sold in markets today is often adulterated with Caodoukou rice; this must be known.
For all kinds of food poisoning, take the powder orally. (Verified Formula 1.)
For accidental ingestion of copper coins or gold/silver, decoct and take orally. (2.)
For fish bones stuck in the throat, combine with Licorice Root powder, wrap in cotton cloth, and swallow while holding in the mouth. (3.)
For sores on the lips and mouth, use Sharen shell powder applied externally. (4.)
For toothache, chew frequently. (5.)
For metrorrhagia, take the powder orally. (6.)
For extreme pain due to threatened miscarriage, roast until dry, powder, and take with wine. (7.)
For eclampsia with coma/fainting. Use the same method as above. (8.)
For blood in stool, take the powder orally. (9.)
For generalized edema extending to the genitals, combine with Mole (Lou Gu) powder and take with wine. (10.)
For rebellious qi causing cough and counterflow, powder the herb, mash with fresh ginger root, and take with wine. (11.)
Pungent, warm, non-toxic. Benefits qi, calms the spirit, tonifies the spleen, and harmonizes the stomach. Regulates frequent urination and adjusts seminal emission and involuntary loss of semen. It treats dream-emission with red turbid urine and hematemesis or metrorrhagia. Do not use for enuresis caused by heat.
It originates from Kunlun and Jiaozhi/Lingnan regions. Its seedlings, leaves, flowers, and roots are indistinguishable from legumes, except that the seeds are smaller. It flowers in the second lunar month, bearing fruit directly on the flower stalks, and ripens in the fifth and sixth months. The seeds resemble a pen tip, pointed at both ends. The current Yizhi Ren resembles a date pit in shape, with skin and kernel similar to Caodoukou.
For frequent urination, combine with Myrobalan powder, decoct with Yam pill, and take orally. (Verified Formula 1.)
For red and white turbidity (turbid urine), take with Poria powder. (2.)
For sudden diarrhea following abdominal distension, when other medicines fail, this indicates qi collapse. Decoct 1 liang in water; effect is immediate. (3.)
For metrorrhagia, take the powder with rice soup. (4.)
For fresh breath, lick together with Licorice Root powder. (5.)
For threatened miscarriage with vaginal bleeding, take with Amomum villosum powder. (6.)
