Taste: Astringent. Nature: Neutral. Non-toxic. Stops various types of blood rebellion, including hematemesis (vomiting blood), epistaxis (nosebleed), and hemoptysis (coughing up blood). Eliminates all forms of blood stasis. Treats hematuria (blood in urine), stranguria (painful/difficult urination with blood), bloody dysentery, and metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding).
[Xian Ou / Ou Zhi (Fresh Lotus Rhizome / Juice)]
Taste: Sweet. Nature: Neutral. Non-toxic. Clears irritability, heat, dryness, and thirst. Treats metal wounds (Jin Chuang) and fractures. Disperses retained blood and blood stasis. Resolves crab toxicity and alcohol toxicity. Promotes muscle growth and stops pain. Treats all types of hematemesis, epistaxis, and lower bleeding. Usage: Take several liang of fresh lotus rhizome, extract the juice, and ingest it. Decoction or pills are both acceptable. (Verified Formula 1.)
For all types of irritability and thirst, dryness: Extract juice from raw lotus rhizome and ingest. (2.)
[Heye (Lotus Leaf)]
Stops various types of hematemesis, epistaxis, and lower bleeding. Eliminates all Yang-type water edema. Treats postpartum evil blood (lochia retention) and traumatic敗血 (damaged blood). Reduces carbuncles and promotes the eruption of smallpox/variolous sores. Stops dry thirst. Treats postpartum placenta retention and heart pain. Usage: Stir-fry lotus leaf until charred/crumbled into powder. Ingest with water or child's urine, or burn to ash, or decoct for juice. All methods are acceptable. (Verified Formula 1.)
For placenta retention: Same method as above. (2.)
For fetal restlessness with yellow discharge: Roast until charred, powderize, and ingest with rice wash water. (3.)
For Yang-type water edema: Bake dry, ingest with rice drink, 2 qian per dose, three times daily. (4.)
For edema of feet and knees: Decoct lotus leaf heart together with Ben Cao (likely referring to a specific herb contextually implied or missing character, here translated generally as "same herb") and wash externally. (5.)
For darkened/inverted smallpox lesions: Ingest together with powder of Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiang Can). Ingest with wine or Coriander soup. Both acceptable. (6.)

For hematemesis and hemoptysis: Same as above. Also can be taken together with Puhuang (Lygodii Spora), ingested with Ophiopogonis Decoction. (8.)
For Metrorrhagia: Take together with Puhuang (Lygodii Spora) and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) powder, ingested with wine. (9.)
For unremitting bloody dysentery: Decoct Heye Di (Lotus Leaf Stalk Base) in water and ingest. (10.)
For dysentery with red and white discharge: Bake, grind into powder, 2 qian per dose. For red dysentery, ingest with honey; for white dysentery, ingest with white sugar. (11.)

Steam until cooked, take the kernel for use. When used in astringent formulas for essence, the shell may also be used.
Taste: Sweet, Astringent. Non-toxic. Tonifies essence and strengthens willpower. Improves hearing and vision. Relieves Bi syndrome pain in the waist and knees. Astringes frequent urination. Astringes spermatorrhea and stops leukorrhea. Eliminates white turbidity.
