Stir-fry until charred but retaining medicinal properties, then grind for use. The smallest species is named *Shufu* (Woodlouse), commonly known as the insect born from dampness. It fears *Zaojiao* (Gleditsia sinensis fruit) and *Changpu* (Acorus tatarinowii rhizome).
Acidic, slightly salty, cold in nature, non-toxic. It enters the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. It eliminates blood stasis, breaks down masses, promotes lactation, and unblocks menstruation. It treats fractures to reconnect bones and tendons, removes accumulated blood to treat oral conditions, promotes urination, and induces abortion. It breaks down mass formations to unblock menstruation. It treats chills and fever caused by chronic malaria, and resolves toothache caused by wind-worms. It treats infantile convulsions, and helps inverted smallpox lesions to rise.
For treating fractures and bone injuries: Roast *Tubiechong* (Eupolyphaga steleophaga) until dry, grind into powder, take 3 qian per dose with wine; it is highly effective. Another method: crush fresh specimens into juice and take with wine. Yet another method: combine *Tubiechong* with *Ziran Tong* (Natural Pyrite), quenching the pyrite in vinegar seven times, then grind into powder; take 2 qian per dose with wine. Another prescription: one *Tubiechong*, roasted dry on a new tile; 1 jin of *Badou* (Croton seed) shelled; 1 jin of *Banxia* (Pinellia ternata tuber) used raw; 0.5 fen of *Ruxiang* (Frankincense); 0.5 fen of *Moyao* (Myrrh); *Ziran Tong* quenched in vinegar seven times. Grind all into an extremely fine powder. Take 1 li per dose, washed down with yellow wine. Do not overdose, as excessive use may cause the wound to protrude abnormally, though its efficacy is extraordinary. Prepare this medicine on the Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu Day); strictly avoid contact with women, chickens, and dogs. (Verified Prescription No. 1.)
*Dahuang Zhechong Wan* (Rhubarb and Ground Beetle Pill): *Zhechong* (Ground Beetle, 20 pieces, feet removed), *Taoren* (Peach Kernel, 20 pieces), *Dahuang* (Rhubarb, 2 liang). Mix with refined honey to form four pills. Take one pill per dose with wine to expel dried blood. Treats abdominal pain due to blood accumulation in postpartum women. (Prescriptions No. 1.)

For back infection/abscess not yet suppurated: Tie one live toad onto the sore. After half a day, the toad will become unconscious; place it in water to save its life. Replace with another toad; if this toad remains intact like the original, the toxin has dissipated. For severe cases, split open and apply the belly directly to the sore. (No. 3.)
For all types of pediatric malnutrition: Burn to ash, mix with vinegar, and apply topically. (No. 4.)
