White wax differs from white beeswax; it is produced by small insects feeding on tree sap. It is found in Sichuan, Huguang, Southern Yunnan, Lingnan Fujian, and Wu-Yue regions.
The leaves and branches resemble holly, remaining evergreen throughout the year, blooming with white flowers in clusters in May. The insect is as large as a louse; after the Mangzhong solar term, it crawls along the branches, feeding on sap and excreting saliva that adheres to the stems, transforming into white wax. After the Chushu solar term, it can be harvested, refined, filtered, and allowed to solidify into blocks, which constitutes the wax. White beeswax is obtained through water refining or exposure to wind and sun.
