(Oviparous) Gu Chong (Valvatae Concha, a type of snail shell used in TCM for resolving food stagnation), specifically enters the stomach and intestines. Its taste is bitter and its nature is cold. It originates from feces; therefore, it is still utilized for its ability to enter the abdomen and resolve stagnation, ensuring it does not damage the healthy Qi (Vital Energy). The method involves washing it clean, roasting it until yellow, grinding it into powder, and taking it with water. Alternatively, take dozens of Bufo bufo gargarizans (Toad), kill them, place them in a container, introduce Gu Chong inside to consume them completely, then wash away the filth, dry the remaining Gu Chong by baking. For children suffering from Gan Ji (Malnutrition/Infantile Malabsorption Syndrome) presenting with abdominal distension, weak legs, and corneal opacity covering the eyes, as well as adults experiencing delirium due to heat accumulation, toxic dysentery accompanied by vomiting, this medicine is suitable for all cases, yielding immediate effect without exception. Therefore, for nasal and dental Gan Chuang (Gum Disease/Fistula), burn one qian (approx. 3-5g) of these tailed Gu Chong to ash, mix evenly with ash from old clothes, and blow frequently into the affected area for best results. Regarding the extraction of teeth for bone-related infections, use one or two jin (approx. 500-1000g) of meat from the top of a white horse's brain, wait for maggots to breed, feed them to one black-boned white chicken, collect the feces, dry them in shade, mix one qian with Sha (likely referring to a mineral drug like Realgar or similar, contextually ambiguous but kept as 'Sha'), grind uniformly, apply a small amount to the painful area, and the tooth will fall off in a moment. All these methods utilize foul substances to counteract foul pathogens, aiming for penetration into bone and flesh, with no other profound meaning.

The *Nei Jing* (Inner Canon) states: When Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) fails to flow smoothly and reverses into the muscle tissue, abscesses and swellings arise. It also states: All pain, sores, itching, and rashes belong to Heart Fire. Furthermore, observing Dan Xi's words: Abscesses and carbuncles arise from the stagnation of Yin and Yang. Thus, the onset of abscesses and carbuncles necessarily involves both internal and external factors, not merely lesions seen within the muscle tissue. However, if the pathogenic toxin has not penetrated deeply, resembling early-stage Shang Han (Cold Damage) where the pathogen is initially at the exterior, medications should only be suitable for ascending and dispersing, rather than immediately using bitter-cold herbs, so that the toxin can be expelled from the exterior. If it slightly penetrates inward causing harm, the toxic condition will become lingering and persistent, leading to fatal signs of toxin attacking the Heart! I have examined drugs for Fa Du (Expelling Toxins); there are many categories. Herbs such as Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Spica), Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), and Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix) used in the Three Yang meridians—none are not among the best for expelling and scattering toxins. Shan Jia (Manis Squama, Pangolin Scales) and Zao Jiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina)—none are not formulas for driving out and pursuing toxins. As for Wu Gong (Scolopendra), it can dispel wind, unblock stasis, and dissipate nodules; She Tui (Bombyx Batryticatus, Shed Skin of Silkworm Spider) can dispel wind and ward off evil; Ye Ju Hua (Chrysanthemi Indici Flos) can scatter fire and drive away qi stagnation; Wang Bu Liu Xing (Vaccariae Semen) can promote qi circulation and relieve stagnation. All are agents for removing and dissipating malignant toxins. Externally, Chan Su (Bufonis Venenum, Toad Venom) and Chan Chu (Bufo bufo gargarizans) have the power to penetrate and extract wind and fire toxins; Xiang Ya (Elephantis Dentis Os, Elephant Tooth) has the power to pull toxins outward; Feng Xiang (Liquidambaris Resina) has the power to transmit toxins outward; Ren Ya (Hominis Dentis Os, Human Tooth) has the power to enter the Kidney and push out toxins; Hu Tong Lei (Tamarisci Fucus, Tamarisk Gum) has the power to induce vomiting of heat toxins in the diaphragm; Qing Fen (Calomelas), Huang Dan (Lithargyrum), and Yin Zhu (Cinnabaris Rubra) have the power to control external abscesses, sores, and scabies; Lou Fu (Aspidis Ascaris, Mole Cricket) and Bi Ma (Ricini Fructus, Castor Bean) have the power to open water passages and orifices, pulling toxins outward. In the case of Fu Rong Hua (Hibisci Mutabilis Flos), although the herb is cooling in nature, it still possesses exterior-releasing properties; thus, it is used in formulas for applying and binding toxins. Other treatments for toxins, upon careful examination of those with bitter-cold tastes, should be listed separately under Jie Du (Resolving Toxins), and must not be included in the category of Fa Du (Expelling Toxin) agents, so that people understand toxins should be expelled from the exterior and not treated with internal-depressing medicines that cause sinking inward.
