It is *Rhododendron molle* (Niaoyanghua), also known as Yellow Rhododendron. Its seed is named *Shanshamazi*, and its root is named *Bashanhu*.
Indications: Relieves pain and dispels wind-dampness.
Tougu Dan (Bone-Penetrating Pill): Take one tael of *Rhododendron molle* seeds (soaked in rice wine, stir-fried three times; soaked in child's urine, stir-fried twice; then dried by baking). Mix with three qian each of *Boswelliae Carverii Resina* (Ruxiang), *Myrrhae Resina* (Moyao), and *Dracaenae Sanguis* (Xuejie). Grind into a fine powder. Add one fen of *Moschus* (Shexiang) and grind together uniformly. Store in a porcelain bottle sealed tightly. Take 3 fen per dose; those with strong constitutions may take 5-6 fen. Take on an empty stomach and lie down immediately to sleep; eat only after waking up. Drink as much alcohol as possible to induce slight sweating. Used for treating traumatic injuries where pain penetrates deep into the bone marrow, dull pain, pain exacerbated by cloudy or rainy weather, or chronic weakness of the four limbs. Those with weak constitutions should take it once every five days; those with strong constitutions should take it once every three days. Avoid sexual intercourse, sour/cold foods, tea, vinegar, etc.
Qili San (Seven-Cent Powder): Take five fen each of *Os Draconis* (Longgu), *Borax* (Pengsha), *Dracaenae Sanguis* (Xuejie, washed with wine), *Catechu* (Ercha), and *Hyperici Japonici Herba* (Tulianqiao). Grind into a fine powder. Take seven li (0.7 fen) per dose. Used for treating knife wounds; the analgesic effect is miraculous.
Shiquan Wan (Ten-Perfection Pill): Take three qian of *Moschus* (Shexiang); one tael each of *Manis Pentadactyla Squama* (Chuanshanjia, stir-fried with yellow earth), *Aucklandiae Radix* (Guangmuxiang), *Dracaenae Sanguis* (Xuejie, ground separately), *Realgar* (Xionghuang, processed by water flotation), *Semen Strychni* (Shanshamazi, stir-fried with wine), *Semen Strychnos* (Fanmubie, stir-fried with yellow earth until scorched yellow), *Pyritum* (Zirantong, quenched in vinegar nine times), *Bombyx Batryticatus* (Jiangcan, remove head and feet, stir-fry to remove silk threads); twenty-one whole *Eupolyphaga Seu Steleophaga* (Wugong, remove feet and tail, roast). Grind into a fine powder and make pills with honey the size of wutong seeds. Coat with *Cinnabar* (Zhusha) and wrap in gold foil. Seal in wax pills. Use one pill per dose; for severe cases, use another pill. Dissolve in wine decocted with *Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix* (Qianghuo) and *Perillae Folium* (Zisu) for administration to induce sweating and avoid wind; otherwise, it may cause tremors and harm the body. Used for treating wind-bi syndrome, traumatic injuries, and early-stage carbuncles and sores. Those with deficiency must first take tonic medicines. (Another prescription removes *Semen Strychnos* and adds five qian of *Daturae Metel Flos* (Fengqiahua), reducing *Semen Strychni* to five qian.)
Wuhu Dan (Five-Tiger Pill): Take one tael each of *Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix* (Caowu, peel off skin, mix with ginger juice, dry, stir-fry between papers), *Semen Strychni* (Shanshamazi, mix with high-proof liquor, dry, stir-fry), *Realgar* (Xionghuang, processed by water flotation), *Dracaenae Sanguis* (Xuejie, melt over bamboo leaf), and *Manis Pentadactyla Squama* (Chuanshanjia, sand-stir-fried). Grind into a fine powder and make pills the size of mustard seeds. Administer with wine, 2-3 fen per dose; do not exceed this amount. The efficacy is the same as Shiquan Wan.
Shenmiao Caotou Shayao (Divine Herbaceous Sha Poison Medicine): Take one tael of *Centipedae Herba* (Ebushicao); one qian each of *Arisaema Cum Bile* (Nanxing), *Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum* (Banxia), *Veratri Radix et Rhizoma* (Lilu), *Rhapontici Rhizoma* (Loulu), *Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina* (Yazao), and *Rhododendri Molles Semen* (Niaoyanghuazi) and root. Grind into a fine powder. Used for treating heatstroke, cold strike, stroke with aphasia, lockjaw, acute and chronic convulsions. Blow the powder into the nose; sneezing will immediately restore consciousness. Alternatively, mix with yin-yang water and take 2-3 fen orally for immediate cure.
Zhilou Xianfang (Immortal Prescription for Hemorrhoids and Fistulas): Crush *Hypericum japonicum* root (Bashanhu), decoct in water, place in a jar, and set the jar inside a bucket. Make a hole in the lid. Sit facing the hole with the hemorrhoid positioned over it. Steam with the hot vapor; when cool, reheat and steam again. The fistula tract will gradually ulcerate and heal. Mild cases resolve in half a month; severe cases in one month. Do not wash the area.
