Yellow beef nourishes the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner), benefits Qi, and strengthens the waist and legs.
Fanben Wan (Return to Origin Pill): Take yellow ox meat, remove fascia, slice, and wash several times. Soak overnight. Wash three more times the next day until the water runs clear. Place in a jar with high-quality wine free of ash impurities. Seal tightly with thick mud. Boil over mulberry wood fire (alternating between mild and strong heat) for one full day and night. Remove; the desired color is like yellow sand; charred black ones are useless. Dry by roasting and grind into powder. Prepare powder from Chinese Yam (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Lotus Seed Flesh (Nelumbinis Semen), White Poria (Poria), and Fennel Fruit (Foeniculi Fructus) [stir-fried], each 4 liang. For every half jin (approx. 500g) of beef powder, add 1 jin of herbal powder. Steam red dates, remove skins, and mash together with the powders to form pills the size of common buckthorn seeds. Take 50 pills on an empty stomach with wine, three times daily. This formula tonifies various deficiencies and hundred injuries.

Grind all into powder. Separately, decoct Silverweed Root, Violet Herb, and Chrysanthemum Flower (each 2 liang) with Licorice Root (5 qian) in 5 bowls of water in a clay pot until reduced by half. Strain and press dregs dry. Concentrate the liquid over mulberry fire into an extract. Add about 1 cup of refined honey and boil again until sticky and stringy. Mix with powder to form pills. Each pill weighs 3 fen. Take 2 pills per dose with honeyed water. Treats sha syndrome presenting with macules, mania, whole-body purple-red discoloration, and toxic sores/ulcers following sha resolution.
Niu Huang Wan (Calculus Bovis Pill): Calculus Bovis [separately ground], Musk, each 5 qian; Tiger Eye, 1 pair; Dung Beetle [remove head, feet, wings]; Rhinoceros Horn shavings, Benzoin Resin, Angelica Pubescens Root, Poria, Polygala Root, Honey-fried Licorice Root, each 1 liang; Saposhnikovia Root, 1.5 liang; Ginseng, Iron Powder [separately ground], Cinnabar [separately ground], Dragon Teeth [separately ground], each 2 liang. Grind into powder. Form pills with honey, size of buckthorn seeds. Take 30 pills per dose with Schizonepeta Decoction. Treats wind-epilepsy, physical deficiency, phlegm in chest/diaphragm, vomiting, restlessness.

Treats heat accumulation in Heart and Spleen, dry mouth, irritability, and thirst.
Another prescription: Calculus Bovis, Cinnabar, each 3 qian; Raw Aconite Root, 1 piece (weighing 5 qian, remove skin and navel); White Snake [soaked in wine, take flesh], White Head Aconite Root, Full-scorpion, Gastrodia Tuber, Mint Leaf, Brain [separately ground], each 5 qian; Realgar, 5 liang; Musk, 1 qian. Grind into powder. Separately, decoct Ephedra Stem (1 liang) in 1 sheng of wine until reduced to 1 zhen. Remove Ephedra, add a little honey, and concentrate the medicine properly without burning. Quickly form pills by hand, size of Euryale Seed. Coat with Gold Foil. Take 1/5 of a pill per dose, ground and dissolved in Silverweed and Mint Decoction. Treats convulsive disorders, five types of epilepsy, Tian Diao (a type of pediatric convulsion).

Niu Huang Baolong Wan (Calculus Bovis Embracing Dragon Pill): Calculus Bovis, Amber, each 2.5 qian; Western Yellow (likely Musk or similar precious substance), 5 fen; Calculus Bovis Gallstone (Dan Xing), 1 liang; Red Poria, 5 qian; Full-scorpion, Cinnabar, each 1.5 qian; White Silkworm, 3 qian; Indian Hemp Seed, 3.5 qian; Musk, 2 fen.
