Main component: Calcium chloride. It is mostly produced near volcanoes and in kilns where calcined stone has been burned.
Indications: Eliminates accumulation, breaks up blood stasis and relieves pain, treats chronic dysentery (Ji Li) and throat obstruction (Hou Bi), as well as retrograde vomiting.
Sha Wan Formula: Sha 1 qian (ground). Muxiang, Chenxiang, and Badou meat each 1 liang; Qingpi 2 liang; Tongqing 5 qian (ground). First, stir-fry Muxiang, Chenxiang, Qingpi, and Badou slowly over low heat until purple. Remove the Badou and grind into a fine powder. Add Sha and Tongqing, grind uniformly, mix with steamed dough pills to form pills the size of a wutong seed. Take 7 to 10 pills per dose, administered on an empty stomach or before meals with salt water decoction, two to three times daily. This formula can promote Qi circulation and resolve stagnation.
Another Prescription: Sha and Mangxiao each 1 liang; Danggui, Xionghuang, and Guixin each 5 qian; Dahuang (processed) and Sanleng each 2 liang, ground into powder. Take one bowl of rice vinegar and boil the Dahuang powder into a paste. Then add the remaining medicines, mix, and form pills the size of a wutong seed. Take 10 pills per dose, administered with warm wine on an empty stomach. Gradually increase to 20 pills, stopping when foul matter is discharged. Used to treat women's shan jia (abdominal masses) and blood stasis within the zang organs, causing attacking pain in the abdomen and hypochondrium.
Another Prescription: Sha and Muxiang each 3 qian; Heifuzi 2 pieces (each weighing over 5 qian, regular shape). Process the Fuzi by removing skin and umbilicus, hollowing it out to form a jar-like shape. Gubuzhi (Bulgariae Semen, lightly fried through paper) and Bibo each 1 liang. First, grind Sha into powder, dissolve it in one cup of water gradually, and pour it into the Fuzi jar. Boil on fire until dry, then grind into powder. Place this powder inside the Fuzi jar. Cover the opening with the powder scooped out from the Fuzi itself. Wrap tightly with white flour dough, about half a finger thick. Slowly roast over charcoal until yellow. Remove the dough, and grind together with Muxiang and other herbs into a fine powder. Use the original roasted yellow flour as a binder, mixed with rice paste boiled in vinegar, to form pills the size of a wutong seed. Take 15 to 30 pills per dose, administered with ginger decoction. Treats accumulations and pi masses (subcutaneous nodules), and all types of stagnation.
Sha Gao Formula: Select tender branches of Huai, Xing, Tao, Liu, and Sang trees, each 3 chi long, and soak in 10 jin of sesame oil for three days. Then add 600 Zhizi, 6 liang of Shanchuanjia, and 4 liang of Tongzifa (washed with salt water). Slowly fry until withered, remove dregs. Add 100 liang of Feihuangdan to form the ointment. When slightly warm, add 2 liang of Chenxiang (dried without fire), 2 liang of Ercha, 3 liang of Xuexie, 1 liang of Hupo, 1 liang of Xiangpi (sliced and lightly fried), 5 qian of Bingpian, 5 qian of Shexiang, and 4 liang of Sha. Grind all into an extremely fine powder and mix uniformly into the ointment. To use, melt with hot water; avoid direct fire. Functions: removes blood stasis, softens hardness, reduces swelling, and relieves pain. Treats carbuncles, back sores, duikou ulcers, phlegm nodules, scrofula, breast boils, flowing abscesses, and unnameable swellings. For those not yet suppurated, it can dissipate them; for those already suppurated, it can induce rupture.
