*Yao Xing Kao* (Study of Drug Properties): This drug originates from Guangdong, brought by ships from overseas. It has a bitter taste, eliminates evil qi, opens the stomach, and stops vomiting and regurgitation.
*Bai Cao Jing* (Mirror of Hundred Herbs): Brought by foreign ships to Yue'ao (Canton-Macao), it is purple in color with a strong fragrance, smelling like Cinnamon Bark (Rou Gui). Some say it is the resin of Cinnamon; others claim it is pressed from cinnamon seeds, though it is unknown which is correct. Its nature is hot and its action is fierce; it enters the Heart and Spleen channels, and its efficacy is identical to that of Cinnamon Twig (Gui Zhi) / Cinnamon Bark (Rou Gui).
*Chuan Xin Fang* (Passing Faith Prescription): To treat various types of malaria, take one stalk of rush grass (Deng Cao), approximately three to four cun long, moisten it slightly with water, then coat it with Cinnamon Twig Oil (Rou Gui You). Apply it to the back below the Fengfu (GV16) acupoint down to the Feishu (BL13) acupoint, and seal it externally with strips of cotton paper. This must be done one or two shichen (hours) before the onset of the attack, or preferably one day prior. The next day after application, the malaria may manifest more severely, but subsequently it will gradually decrease. This occurs because the pathogenic factors of wind, cold, summer-heat, and dampness are all drawn out.
Shui Anxi Xiang (Water Benzoin) is produced in Guangdong, brought by foreign ships, and also found in Persia and Cochinchina. Its shape resembles a lychee but is larger, wrapped in a shell, with skin color similar to fresh lychees. Upon opening, there is an internal fragrance resembling glue or lacquer, yellow-brown in color, with a very rich and fragrant aroma. If this substance is opened and not used up entirely, it must be placed in a bowl with its outer shell to prevent volatilization; otherwise, during the plum rain season in May, its juice will naturally fill and overflow the shell. Even if only a small amount remains inside, it will still overflow, which is quite peculiar. The *Ben Cao Gang Mu* (Compendium of Materia Medica) states regarding Anxi Xiang (Benzoin Resin) that what is described are dry forms, identified as resin. In the "Ji Jie" (Collected Explanations) section, citing Ye Tinggui's *Xiang Lu* (Record of Incense), it says: that which resembles maltose is called Anxi You (Benzoin Oil), which is this kind of substance. Li Shizhen (Binhu) did not detail its functions. Currently, it is quite popular, so it is collected and supplemented for future use. If its shell has even the slightest crack, the oil will volatilize and leak, requiring melted asphalt to be dripped in to seal it. *Bai Cao Jing* states: There are two types of Anxi Xiang: Water Anxi Xiang and Dry Anxi Xiang. Water Anxi Xiang is rare. When burning it, place a water basin nearby to test; its smoke, when thrown into the water, condenses back into incense, with only a slight reduction in weight. *Wu Za Zu* states: Anxi Xiang can attract mice; its smoke is white like threads, rising straight up without dispersing.
It has a pungent flavor, is neutral in nature, and non-toxic. It unblocks the heart spirit, dispels evil spirits, wards off gu poison, stops heart pain, expels ghost fetus, enters the Heart channel, unblocks Kidney qi, and is particularly beneficial for sexual intercourse. Therefore, Guiling Ji (Tortoise Spirit Preparation) uses it to promote yang erection, and Fanhun Dan (Reviving Soul Pill) uses it for emergency rescue. However, it greatly consumes true qi, so it should not be taken by those with qi deficiency accompanied by fire. Avoid exposure to fire. *Yao Xing Kao*: Shui Anxi Xiang (Water Benzoin) is pungent and bitter, warm in nature. It dispels wind-cold cholera, warms the Kidney and promotes yang, treats heart and abdominal gu qi, hematuria, spermatorrhea, ghost intercourse/ghost pregnancy, and fumigates phthisis (tuberculosis).
*Pi Wen Dan* (Plague-Warding Pill): Chen Jie's *Hui Sheng Ji* (Collection Reviving Life) uses 2 jin of red dates, 8 liang of finely chopped Yinchen (Artemisia capillaris), 8 liang of sliced Dahuang (Rhubarb), and 5 qian of Shui Anxi Xiang (Water Benzoin), combined into pill cakes. Burn one each morning.
*Zhong Zi Er Fang* (Two Formulas for Conception): Zhou Shi Jia Bao formula uses 1 liang of Baichuang (Camphor frost sublimated from borneol), 2 qian of Shexiang (Musk), 3 qian of Kufan (Alum), 3 qian of Longgu (Fossilized Bones), 3 qian of Liangjiang (Galangal), 2 qian of Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis), 2 qian of Mingxiong (Realgar), 5 qian each of Shui Anxi Xiang (Water Benzoin) and Mudingxiang (Mother Clove), Suhe You (Styrax Oil), 3 qian of Guanzi Gui (Official Cinnamon), 2 qian of Qingfen (Calomel), 2 qian of Zishaohua (Acanthopanacis Senticosi Caulis), and 3 qian of Dashan Cigu (Colocasia esculenta). Grind all into fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of tung tree seeds, seal with wax. Insert one pill after menstruation, and another the next day. The effect on conception is miraculous. It also treats hematuria, leukorrhea, yin sores, yin erosion, and syphilis toxins.
Another Formula: One real Chuan Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root), weighing 1 liang 2-3 qian, and 4 qian of Shan Cigu (Colocasia esculenta). These two ingredients must be soaked in child's urine, dried by roasting, and ground into powder. 8 qian of Chuan Wu (Aconitum carmichaelii lateral root) and 3 qian of Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis) are ground together into powder. 5 qian of Shui Anxi Xiang (Water Benzoin) and 8 qian of Sheng Chansu (Fresh Toad Venom) are ground together. 5 qian of Buma Caowu (Aconitum kusnezoffii) and 5 qian of Mingxiong (Realgar) are ground together into powder. 5 qian of Guanzi Gui (Official Cinnamon) and 8 qian of Mudingxiang (Mother Clove) are ground together into powder. 5 qian of Suhe You (Styrax Oil) and 3 qian of Zhen Yopian (True Opium) are ground together into powder. 3 qian of Zishaohua (Acanthopanacis Senticosi Caulis), 1 liang of Shechuangzi (Cnidium Fruit), 5 qian of Wowuhuang (Sulfur), and 5 qian of Qingfen (Calomel). Grind the above medicines into powder, boil with 5 qian of Baiji (Bletilla Rhizome) in water, and mix with the previous powders to form pill cakes. During intercourse, grind a small amount with saliva and apply to the glans penis. It treats seminal emission and infertility due to prolonged failure to conceive, and detoxifies, preventing infection from sores. If applied once each in the morning, noon, and evening, and persisted in over time, the effect will be even more miraculous. Using it together with the previous formula for both men and women is better; adding 5 qian of Renshen (Ginseng) is especially wonderful.
For cheek perforation with sinus tract formation that does not heal for years. Xu Shi Formula: Apply Shui Anxi Xiang (Water Benzoin) to the area; the tract will dissolve and the toxin will heal.
