Huntang Shui (Bathwater): Refers to the water heated in modern bathhouses for bathing. It becomes turbid and accumulates filth due to the large number of people. The vaporization of human qi and moisture can cause those with deficient constitutions to feel dizzy upon contact; this condition is termed "Yun Tang" (Dizziness in the Bath). This occurs because human qi permeates and blends with the water.
It treats scabies and tinea, and promotes urination in cases of stranguria and turbid urine.
For snake-scale entanglement on the body. Verified prescription by Liu Yuyi: Drinking the bathwater can detoxify the body.
For smallpox. Prescription from Hang Shi Yuan: If smallpox lesions turn black and sink after eight or nine days of eruption, decocting medicine with huntang shui can cause them to rise immediately.
The *Taiyuan Yuge Xinshu* records a method for preparing Jishen Shui (Chicken Spirit Water), which was selected in the *Yanke Yaolan* (Essentials of Ophthalmology). Preparation method: Select one large radish, cut a large hole near the stem end without damaging the root, so that it remains alive. Place one egg inside the hole, replant the radish in the ground, and wait until it sprouts leaves and matures. Extract the liquid from within the egg and apply it to the eyes; vision will become clear as that of a child.
It brightens the eyes and removes ocular opacities.
Rizhi Jing You (Sun Essence Oil) manufactured in the West. The *Bencao Bu* states: Its medicinal ingredients are mostly not native to China. Travelers have brought them across ninety thousand li to the Central Plains; they certainly possess effects far beyond ordinary remedies, and should not be underestimated. It treats all injuries caused by knives, spears, wood, stone, horse kicks, and dog bites, providing pain relief and promoting wound closure, with remarkable efficacy. Usage: First assess the size of the wound. If the wound is long and wide with split skin, first wash and wipe clean with alcohol, then suture with thread. Approximately one stitch per inch and three fen; sutures should not be too tight. For smaller wounds, suturing is unnecessary. After suturing, wash and wipe clean again with alcohol. Heat oil in a clean porcelain vessel. Take old cotton cloth worn by men, considering the warp and weft lengths, and use the wound size as the measure. Dip each strand/thread into the hot oil and apply it to cover the entire wound surface. Then wrap with old cloth worn by men; avoid using cloth worn by women. After three or four days, untie the dressing, apply a little moisturizing oil, and re-wrap securely as before. Healing occurs within a few days. If the wound has been present for a long time and blood is dry, slightly scratch or scrape it with a knife to allow blood and fluid to flow, thereby facilitating the penetration of medicinal qi, then re-wrap securely as before. However, excessive bleeding causes the medicine to run off, so neither lack of blood nor excessive blood is suitable. The injured area must be kept away from water and saliva, which should be strictly avoided. If the wound is already suppurating or involves bone fracture, this oil is of no benefit and should not be used. For pain in the heart, abdomen, ears, nose, hands, feet, and various joints, if it is indeed caused by wind-cold rather than dryness-heat, this oil can treat it. Identify the specific location of the pain, rub and massage with oil until extremely hot, then wrap with old cloth worn by men. During treatment, one must sit in a sealed room, avoid exposure to wind, and refrain from consuming cold foods and substances. (From *Bencao Bu*)
