Tongya records: Among the pepper imported from Guangzhou, there is a variety called "Yu Jiao" (Jade Pepper), which is white in color and tastes uniquely spicier than other peppers. Currently, Ningbo's foreign goods shops have many of these; their color is as white as snow. Those that are white both inside and out are considered superior, while those with white skin but yellow interiors are inferior. It can resolve the toxicity of fish and shrimp and is used in sexual arts. Li Jinshi from Penglai stated: The white pepper brought by overseas ships, according to locals, is made by taking young peppercorns, removing their skins, and sun-drying them until they resemble white jade; it is not a different species. Physical Small Knowledge records: Pepper originates from foreign lands and grows as a vine; some varieties are white, or so it is said, identical to Bichengqie (Galangal Fruit).
Painful Stomach Baicao Jing records: Use seven large red dates with pits removed, placing seven grains of Baihujiao (White Pepper) into each date. Tie them securely with thread and steam them over a rice cooker seven times. Then pound them together into pills the size of mung beans. Take seven pills per dose with warm boiled water; for robust individuals, ten pills may be taken. After ingestion, pain ceases, and a sensation of heat and hunger arises in the stomach; suppressing this with porridge or rice brings comfort. This formula treats cold food stagnation and phlegm-fluid retention.
Ye Tianshi's prescription for treating nine types of heartache: Dingxiang (Clove, remove top cap), Guangmuxiang (Aucklandia Root), Xionghuang (Realgar), Badou (Croton Seed, oil removed), and Baihujiao (White Pepper), each 3 qian; Zhike (Bitter Orange), Honghua (Safflower), and Wulingzhi (Trogopterus Dung), each 1 liang. Grind all into fine powder, mix with good wine to form pills the size of Raphani Semen (Radish Seed). Store in bottles after drying. Take 8 li per dose, swallowed with saliva. Avoid raw, cold, and greasy foods. The root cause can be eliminated within half a month.
Zhongfutang Fang's White Sha Medicine: Baihujiao (White Pepper) 1 liang, Yazao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit) 1 qian. Wuzazu records: Originating from the Western Regions, it resembles pepper but has an extremely intense aroma. Locals use it as pepper. Its main functions are to open the appetite, aid digestion, break accumulations, and dispel evil pathogens.
Dian Zhi records: The flowers of Jinggangzuan (Antiaris toxicaria) are yellow and fine. Locals plant it as a hedge. Another variety resembles a cockscomb.
Yongchuang Duanju records: Jinggangzuan grows in Tianmu Mountain. The tree is less than three or four chi tall, with many curved branches. Even in spring and summer, it has no leaves. When its branches are touched, they seem to drag one's clothing, preventing forward movement. The Yi-Mian region also has this species. It is said that if its powder is soaked in water, the water becomes highly toxic, causing immediate death upon drinking, known as "Ren Zhang" (Human Miasma). It can also be used as a method to induce lust.
Zhang Hong's Record of Mission to Burma: In Burma, there is a tree called Jinggangzuan, resembling a palm tree, with curved branches and no leaves. If crushed and soaked in water, and given to thirsty cattle or horses to drink, eating their meat will inevitably cause death.
Liu Kuiruo Cheng Fu Tonghui records: Jinggangzuan is produced in Da Hou Zhou, Yunnan. It is green like Citrus hystrix (Thorny Acacia) and is the most toxic.
Dian Ji states: Jinggangzuan has a green trunk with sharp thorns. Peacocks that eat it die from its juice. Those who mistake it for grass are mistaken. It is now found everywhere in Qujiang, Jianshui, and Shiping.
Its nature is highly toxic and is used by alchemists. Danfang Bencao states: Jinggangzuan is a pure Yang herb. It can fix sulfur. When used together with Liuyeteng (Willow Leaf Vine), its efficacy is most miraculous.
