To treat pediatric noma (gangrenous stomatitis). *Ji Yan Fang* (Collected Proven Prescriptions): Copper green water-washed, realgar water-washed, gallnut stir-fried until charred, burnt alum, white silk floss burned to retain its properties, dried tamarind flesh roasted dry, asarum with leaves and rhizomes removed and stir-fried until charred, picrorhiza stir-fried until charred. These eight ingredients are taken in equal proportions. Decoct old tea leaves and scallion roots in water. Use a chicken feather dipped in the decoction to wash away necrotic tissue until fresh blood appears, then apply this medicinal powder to the affected area.
*Yue Shan Lu* records: Originating from Xin'an Nan, the head net was originally woven from ramie. Fishwives cut their worn-out pieces into strips, used them as weft, and warp them with cotton yarn. They were boiled with iron oxide dye, bleached in stream water to remove the previous color dyed by Chinese sumac, making them bright white. The cloth is divided into double and single types. Double-sided cloth has large and small floss knots on both front and back; single-sided cloth has them on one side. Floss knots that are longer are considered more valuable. Rubbing it for a long time makes it fluffy and soft like western felt; those with raised pile are even better. If dyed with Chinese sumac, the threads become crisp and refreshing, suitable for summer wear; if undyed, they remain soft for warmth. People in Guangdong highly value it; it is also a peculiar cloth. Children taking it can ward off evil spirits.
To treat gan toxicity. *Wai Ke Zheng Zong* (Orthodox Manual of External Medicine): For chancre, burn the brim of an oil-stained straw hat made of fine gauze to ash. Roast Hang powder on a tile until yellow. Mix these two in equal proportions and grind into an extremely fine powder. First, wash the lesion with a decoction of fifteen red dates and three qian of licorice root, then sprinkle the powder.
Metal weapon wounds (*Ji Yan Fang*): Burn the oil-stained brim of an old felt hat to ash and sprinkle it on the wound; it will heal.
Cotton fiber comes in two types: kapok and silk cotton. Only garments made of silk cotton develop "silk pearls" (clumps of silk floss); newly made clothes often have these pearls protruding through the fabric. Zhou Lüjing in *Qun Wu Qi Zhi* (Strange Manufactures of Various Things) states: Cotton-padded cloth clothes padded in midsummer do not have silk pearls, but those padded in autumn and winter do. Placing a few stalks of rush grass on the cotton prevents the formation of pearls. For medicinal use, the silk pearls from old clothes are taken because they have absorbed human qi for a long time. Silk pearls protruding from new clothes are useless. To treat gecko bites, mix with sesame oil and apply externally; it is miraculous.
To treat chancroid (specifically referring to a condition described as "scale hook sore"). This condition manifests as a sudden ulceration or hole near the anus within the first month of life in infants. *Sheng Ji Ku Hai* (Sea of Bitterness in Saving Lives): Use 2 qian of red velvet burned to ash, 5 fen pearl, 5 fen calomel, 2 qian catechu, 1 qian dragon's blood, and 1 qian frankincense. Grind into powder and apply dry to the lesion.
