Yang Chunya’s Verified Prescription: For the initial stage of Ru Yong (Breast Abscess, acute purulent inflammation of the breast), take a woman’s floral hairpin, circle it towards the sun while silently chanting: "A black dark cloud in the sky, a girl suffering from breast pain on earth, I now specially bestow upon the golden hairpin, when the golden hairpin dissolves, the pain will never return." Repeat this seven times, then hand the hairpin to the woman to circle over the affected area, which will lead to recovery.
Jiegu Jiabao Formula (Bone-Setting Family Treasure Formula): Use one broken shoe from a beggar child in the market, burn it to ash, mix equally with white wheat flour (Triticum aestivum), and blend into a paste using good quality vinegar. Apply to the affected area, bind with silk cloth, and clamp with a cedar board. After a short while, the pain stops and the bone sets; producing a sound is considered auspicious.
In Jiangxi, hemp cloth dyed blue and used as mosquito nets in summer is called Xiabu (Summer Cloth). Nowadays, people use these old mosquito nets as bases for lacquerware, which yields the best results.
Wang Huajiu’s Simple Prescription for Zouyou Feng (Roaming Wind, migratory rheumatic pain): Burn green Xiabu old mosquito nets to ash while preserving their medicinal properties (Cun Xing), mix with sesame oil (Sesamum indicum) and apply topically. Reapply if it recurs.
Unmedicated Excellent Prescription for Yin Qi Yang Nan Ren (Intractable Itching in the Genital Area): Burn green Xiabu old mosquito nets to ash while preserving their medicinal properties, mix with sesame oil (Sesamum indicum) and apply topically, leading to immediate cure.
Niao Ban (Urine Board): This refers to the rafters above a latrine. Having been soaked by feces for many years, its detoxifying efficacy is no less than that of Fen Qing (Human Urine Sediment).
Jingxin Lu’s Prescription for Hongsi Ding (Red Thread Ding, an acute infection characterized by spreading red lines): First, pierce and break the red thread with a needle. Grind the splintered wood raftles from old latrines into fine powder, mix with maltose (Yi Tang) and apply to the head of the lesion to extract the Ding toxin.
Niao Ban for Treating Hand and Foot Sores Unable to Heal: Jiabao Formula, use white wooden boards soaked in urine for many years until rotted, burn to ash while preserving medicinal properties, grind into fine powder, add Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian), and sprinkle on the wound for immediate closure.
Wanbiao Jishantang Formula: Bai Qiushuang (White Autumn Frost), which is the white frost formed at the bottom of latrine pits over many years. Only those exposed to wind and rain should be used. In preparation, heat red-hot over charcoal fire and quench nine times in vinegar. The *Bencao Gangmu* section on Human Part mentions “Niobai” (Urine White), which is Renzhongbai (Calculus Hominis, human urine concretion). Moreover, the listed indications and attached prescriptions do not mention setting bones or treating trauma; this is specifically added to fill that gap.
For severe cases of Diepu Sunshang (Falls and Bruises), Shancuo (Sprains/Strains), and heavy bone injuries: Grind into extremely fine powder, take 0.5 fen per dose, mixed with good wine and taken orally. (Source: Wanbiao)
Chen Haishu stated: Behind the stone slabs at the bottom of latrines used for many years, there is a white substance like snow condensing within. When chiseled out, it has a slight foul odor (though this disappears after long storage). Since the power of feces penetrates the stone, its essence concentrates here, enabling it to clear Fire Toxins.
Wang Shengyu stated: Also known as Fen Shuang (Frost of Feces). I have seen children whose smallpox had just healed suddenly suffer from Lung Dryness, dry throat, cracked lips, eyes appearing to emit fire, and a red face. This was due to Fire Toxins being obstructed and stagnant in the Upper Jiao. Taking one or two qian of this medicine each time led to full recovery within a few days.
My commentary: Jiang Yi’s *Yaojing* states: Mud from the bottom of old latrines can be applied to stop pain in Ding Zhong and Fa Bei (Carbuncle); the frost is its essence. Generally, both serve to clear Fire and detoxify, and their functions are not far apart.
