Records from the South: It is found in the Hengshan area, formed by the condensation of ice pellets and sleet, accumulating over many years. It grows on shady cliffs and precipices, crystal clear like jade, requiring collection while hanging from steep heights.
It treats lung diseases, reducing fire and clearing the heart.
When Zhu Chuliang was in Zhenhai, locals had the custom of harvesting "Snow-in-Flower" (Xueli Hua). In the severe cold of winter, this flower begins to grow near the Dragon Pool at Zhaobao Mountain, blooming around the islet. The seedlings are very short, resembling *Serissa japonica* ('June Snow'), not exceeding two inches in height, producing white flowers the size of beans each time snow falls. Locals collect them, dry them, and use them as medicine.
Powdered Xueli Hua is applied: for moist hemorrhoids, dry powder is sprinkled; for dry ones, it is mixed with sesame oil and applied. After one or two applications, the hemorrhoids subside and shrink. (This content overlaps with that of "Xueli Kai" and its appendix "Xueli Hua" in Volume 4, Herb Section.)
Zhu Lan can dispel wind, nourish the skin and muscles, and moisturize hair. It treats heat sensation in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest) and gastric discomfort/irritability. It can be taken as a powder combined with Lotus Leaf (*He Ye*) and Peony Root (*Shaoyao*).
Guangdong Local Records state: Also known as Joy-Announcing Orchid, it belongs to the category of Wind Orchids, not true orchids. The flowers resemble Wintersweet but are red-purple in color, with a similar fragrance. Each stem branches into seven or eight tips, hanging among trees without touching the ground air. It blooms upon auspicious events; pregnant women who hang the flower above their door will give birth easily. Guan Han's *Notes on Lingnan* records that the Joy-Announcing Orchid blooms only when auspicious events occur. Its cultivation method uses air as roots and dew as life, similar to Wind Orchids.
Its primary function is to facilitate childbirth.
*Yaoxing Kao* (Evaluation of Medicinal Properties): Pearl Orchid tastes pungent; after being scented with tea, its aroma is rich. Its root is toxic and can be ground for external application to treat carbuncles and furuncles; it is now called Chicken Claw Orchid. *Hua Jing* (Classic of Flowers) states: True Pearl Orchid is also known as Fish Roe Orchid. Its leaves and branches resemble Jasmine, producing long, thin stamens. It blooms simultaneously with Jianlan Orchid, with a similar but more intense fragrance. Those who prefer purity find it excellent to roast tea with its stamens. However, due to its toxicity, only its fragrance is utilized, so it is not included in medicinal prescriptions. Zhang Huangren stated: An old Daoist priest in Zhongtiao Mountain taught people how to treat fox spirits. A woman was possessed by a male fox. The priest instructed her to crush Pearl Orchid roots and place them by the bedhead. When the fox came to mate, she applied the paste to its genitalia. The fox screamed loudly and fled. The next day, a dead fox was found in the wild. The priest said, "This root kills foxes upon contact with their flesh; its toxicity against foxes is particularly effective."
